Just a regular American
The Leaf
Spring brings forth the bud,
a tiny little ball of brown,
turning green in but a moment,
and spreads its wings to the world
announcing a new beginning.
One of many on a host,
forming a beautiful green canopy,
dancing in the breeze in unison,
and talking to all living things.
A leaf spends its summer,
swaying in the wind,
enduring the beating of thunderstorms,
and the soothing heat of the sun.
Fall begins and the green
slowly changes to brown or red.
The leaf shrivels up,
the breeze rips it from its host.
Yet the fall is a graceful dance,
floating in a lazy chaotic pattern,
landing on the firm soil of earth.
The once green leaf,
begins to turn to dust,
beginning life anew,
in another time and place.
