The Last Bastion Of Ancient God Worship

You've never actually been to a Church school, have you?

Thank goodness you're right about that one. Tell me something....just why do we need "church schools?" Why do families choose to pay good money to keep their children away from public schools and send them to a place which teaches fairy tales?

Um, because it's none of your frigging business? Because absolutely no one on the face of the planet gives a rat's ass what you think about their beliefs, or indeed, what you think about ANYTHING? Many of us don't even subscribe to the notion that you think at all.

The question isn't "Why do families choose to do something that I have declared they shouldn't". The question is "Why do you persist in caring what other people do?"

I guess the prophet Mohammed gets a pass on the concept of ancient God worship although he is thought of as an emissary of God. The big question is why bigots hate and fear the benign Christian belief system when muslem jihadists will kill you if you insult their prophet or stray from Sharia law?

I hate it because my family and early school teachers brainwashed me with that foolishness and it took me till I was over sixty years old to put it behind me. Anybody who teaches those fairy tales to young children should be convicted of child abuse.

I dont see it that way. Catholic Schooling taught me responsibility, morality, and a proper sense of man's place in the universe.

and as for the whole "convicted of child abuse thing" Kindly go fuck yourself. See? All that catholic schooling and I still have the free will to violate a chruch tenet. Your percieved "brainwashing" probably has nothing to do with the church, and more to do with your own weakness of character.

I kinda' figured you were a subject yourself. Ancient god worship is losing ground by the month. I'm an old man and might not see the end of it but within 50-60 years 80%-90% of the American population will look upon it exactly the way we look at ancient Roman and Greek gods......mythological bullshit. I love what Thomas Jefferson told John Adams in a letter. He had enough common sense and gumption to see through the stuff a long, long time ago:

"And the day will come when the mystical generation of Jesus, by the supreme being as his father in the womb of a virgin will be classed with the fable of the generation of Minerva in the brain of Jupiter. But we may hope that the dawn of reason and freedom of thought in these United States will do away with all this artificial scaffolding" ~Thomas Jefferson~

You are the last person who should EVER talk about how stupid other people are.

Bottom line: don't mouth off about the ignorance of your opponents when you are a shining example of the ignorance of your own side.

Amazing how I'm not seeing any kind of source for your cute little show-and-tell. Care to tell me why I should take YOUR word, or the word of whichever friend you got this from, that it's real and meaningful?

I will never understand why dipshits on message boards actually think people are going to trust them implicitly.

Source, or shut the fuck up.

I was taught evolution, and I went to Catholic Schools for 17-1/2 years, 1st grade through College (Graduate Degree).

Religion was a seperate class, not integrated into the rest of the curriculum.

Your hatred of anything religious is still sad and pathetic.

I hate it because my family and early school teachers brainwashed me with that foolishness and it took me till I was over sixty years old to put it behind me. Anybody who teaches those fairy tales to young children should be convicted of child abuse.

Sounds like you're quite the mental case... seek help for your problems and stop blaming God.

And stop boring the rest of us with your childhood trauma. This is not group therapy.

Dude, give it a rest. We understand you are an atheist. Big fucking deal. Quit polluting the boards with your invective....you're only preaching to the choir you know.

No, even his choir - aka the people who nominally agree with him on this subject - are frigging bored with him at this point and think he should spank his inner moppet and move on.

Cammpbell, Did something bad happen to you at age 60, or did you wake up one day and say, "OMG, I've been brainwashed!" And what kept you from that epiphany at age 40?

I've studied all religions from the time I was a teen. My mother and sister threatened me when they caught me reading the book of Mormon while I was in high school. My maternal grandmother used to tell me, "Old Scratch Will Get You" when I was four or five years old if I did something wrong. In the third and fourth grades in west TN the teachers started the day with the pledge and lord's prayer. They assigned each of us a bible verse on Mondays to memorize and recite back to the class on Fridays. By the time I was in my early 20's I had read the bible cover to cover and the new testament no less than ten times with concordances close by for extra explanation and opinion. I could quote most of the thing chapter and verse.

I was baptized before a congregation of close to 1000 in the spring of 1957 and I never did half do anything so I taught Sunday school, belonged to the Brotherhood, was on the building committee and ushered some times when the regulars were absent. I reffed and/or coached our RA boys. I attended religious retreats. I spoke and gave personal testimony at churches in small towns nearby. I visited the sick on Tuesday evenings and seldom missed prayer meetings on Wednesdays.

Guess What? Even though I had read and studied and talked about it I never believed it...not for a minute. I used to sit in the sanctuary and look around the congregation wondering how many others there doubted the way I did. When I was just short of 61 years old after seldom missing a Sunday and never failing to tithe my gross I made a solid decision. I didn't think it was fair to my family or my friends to continue that charade so I informed everyone about my decision and to those close to me I explained that I had never believed it.

Get used to it.....I'm on a mission.

An obsessive need to project yourself and your bullshit into the lives of total strangers isn't a "mission": it's cause for industrial-strength therapy and a restraining order.

Let me say this clearly and slowly, so it has a chance of seeping through that brick on top of your shoulders you call a head: MIND. YOUR. OWN. FUCKING. BUSINESS.

All that work you did, but you never once mentioned a personal relationship with God, that failed. Were you so busy going about church business that you didn't take time to build a connection with the father you thought you were serving? You never once mentioned Him in your bio.

You just don't get it......fuck god and all the self centered, selfish, greedy people in the past who brought all this malarky into modern times. It's never been anything except a hindrance to progress. Ancient god worship is on the way out and it's not whether...it's when.

YOU just don't get it. Fuck YOU and your erroneous idea that other people's beliefs, families, and childrearing are any of your freaking business.

One thing about the baptism, it is a show of faith representing the death of the old man and the rebirth of the new man. But you don't have to be baptized to receive the Holy Spirit. The thief on the cross is an example of conviction without baptism. You can receive the gift of the Holy Spirit in any setting at any time. Those closest to Jesus didn't receive it until the upper room event. But the Bible says to be baptized as soon as possible to rid us of our old self and to begin our lives anew in Christ.

You can't determine that from the scriptures. They are silent as to whether the thief on the cross was ever baptized. He clearly knew who Christ was. It's possible he was baptized and yet committed crimes. Or perhaps turned himself in because he was converted to Christ. Or he could have been baptized by proxy afterwards.

Romans 6:3-4... Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.

It never mentions the Holy Spirit as the reason to be baptized. Christ baptized more people than John the Baptist did, yet his disciples didn't receive the Spirit until Christ left.

Paul didn't baptize.
In his letter to Corinth he explains why.
"For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel - not with words of human wisdom, lest the cross of Christ be emptied of its power."

But it is Peter that pointed out the series of events described in Acts 10: 44-48

While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit came on all who heard the message. The circumcised believers who had come with Peter were astonished that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out even on Gentiles. For they heard them speaking in tongues[a] and praising God.

Then Peter said, “Surely no one can stand in the way of their being baptized with water. They have received the Holy Spirit just as we have.” So he ordered that they be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ.

Church Schools!!

Instead of evolution they are taught a fairy tale. Instead of science they pray. Instead of facts they listen to some brainwashed teacher's individual views. After that is over the rest will become history.

One thing that has always given religion heartburn......truth!

What the fuck is it to you what other people believe and teach their children? I must have missed the law that requires me to run my beliefs past you and get your seal of approval, and I DEFINITELY missed the point where you acquired ANY input into how my children are raised.

Don't you have some cucumbers that need condoms on 'em in a public school somewhere? Run along, and come back when public schools can produce more than half a graduating class that can read.

The problem is not what the "Faithful" teach their children. It's that I don't want mine or my grandchildren to hear a word of it from their self serving preachers and those who teach in public schools. That's the key to belief in ancient gods. Each generation must brainwash the next. Don't worry......it's on the way out.

Yeah, well, I don't want MY kids and grandkids to have to hear ignorance from asswipe atheists like you, but amazingly enough, I don't have the power to decide that everyone in the world has to agree with me. So unless you're planning to run off to Montana and start your very own little atheist militia commune in the boonies, I suggest you butch up and learn to live with the fact that other people have the same right to choose and express their beliefs that you do, and stop being such an intolerant control freak psycho.

And FYI, if you REALLY want it to die out, you should consider never, EVER uttering another word in any sort of public venue, because the more you talk, the smarter your opposition looks. Right now, you're the best advertisement we have for religion: Cammmpbell hates it, so it MUST be good.

Cammpbell: A shining example of a halfwit who insists on voting when he hasn't been issued a ballot, or even when there's no election happening. :clap2:

That's rude.
Just because someone believes in a higher being doesn't make them any less of a person. It just means that they have a spiritual element to them that they like to have; and while I personally do have a lot of issues with religion, and with many religious people, a lot of them - the ones who actually follow what they practice (the "hot" ones; not the lukewarm ones from Rev 3:16) - are actually very good people.

You're the kind of atheist that makes the rest of us look like terrible people.

Let me tell you what just happened.

1) You made a definitive assertion with no substantiation.

2) I demanded that you provide us with the source for your claim.

3) You provided me with a BLOG SITE, written by some unknown, four-eyed dipshit from Tweedle-My-Ballsack, Ohio or wherever. Do I know who this asshole is? No, I do not. Do you know why I'm not willing to take YOUR word for things? Because you're some asshole from Tweedle-My-Ballsack whom I don't know. Connect the dots there, Punkin, and see if YOU can come up with why a blog does not constitute a source of anything.

4) You also triumphantly gave me a link to Amazon.com, as though saying, "See, there really IS a book by that name in the world!" proves something other than the fact that this unknown, ball-capped dipshit can look up Amazon.com just like everyone else.

If this is going to be the quality of your postings on this message board, I suggest you either leave or become accustomed to being taken apart like a cheap watch and mocked and ridiculed. If neither of those options appeals, I suggest you step it up SEVERAL notches, because this ain't gonna fly.

See if you can figure out why what you did was unacceptable, and makes you only marginally less-laughable as a poster child for atheism than Cammmpbell. If you can't quite puzzle it out, let me know and I'll explain it in excruciatingly fine detail for you.

Why are you so angry? I've never said one cross thing to you.

You wanted evidence that the book existed, and that the image I provided came from that book. I provided it. And the reason I gave you a blog? Apparently this person was the only one bored enough to read it. I've got a link to Patheos that also talks about the book, but if you're going to discredit one blog you're going to discredit another.

And also, my original post from imgur, I got it from Reddit. This is the part where you tell me how bad I am for even glancing at Reddit, because I'm sure to you that's also a place that's completely irrelevant.

Cammmpbell, isn't it equally a fairy tale and brainwashing to tell young children they used to be apes?

To be fair, I believe you've got it wrong there.
Mankind didn't evolve from apes, they evolved from a different kind of human; an earlier, simpler one.

I never understood the obsession with... "radical" evolutionists that we came from apes. What became proto-humans weren't apes, they were proto-humans.

Why are you so angry? I've never said one cross thing to you.

1) Don't flatter yourself. I'm impatient, not angry, and it's because I'm already inundated with more than enough stupidity on this board; I don't need you to add more.

2) This isn't kindergarten, so lose the sullen little-boy whine. Political chat gets a bit rougher than the Justin Bieber boards, so if you're going to stay, put on your big boy Underoos.

You wanted evidence that the book existed, and that the image I provided came from that book. I provided it.

No, Sparkles, you didn't. You provided me with evidence that you spend a lot of time reading Internet blogs written by dipshit nobodies and thinking that because it's on the Internet, it must be true. And you provided me evidence that your dipshit nobody can read Amazon.com.

And the reason I gave you a blog? Apparently this person was the only one bored enough to read it. I've got a link to Patheos that also talks about the book, but if you're going to discredit one blog you're going to discredit another.

And apparently YOU were bored enough to read this dipshit's blather and get your panties in a wad about it. And apparently you thought I was bored enough to have it repeated to me as some sort of "proof" that religious schools don't teach science. And don't even TRY to tell me that wasn't where you were going. Given the title and topic of the thread, if that WASN'T what you were saying, then you're retarded or lying.

You missed the point, by the way. I didn't "discredit the blog". It discredited itself by BEING a blog. I don't know if anyone's ever told you this, Einstein, but anyone can post anything to the Internet. Doesn't make it true.

And also, my original post from imgur, I got it from Reddit. This is the part where you tell me how bad I am for even glancing at Reddit, because I'm sure to you that's also a place that's completely irrelevant.

I don't give a fat rat's ass WHAT you "glance at", Sparkles. You can spend the whole day online, whacking off to midget porn if that's what floats your boat. Just don't waste MY time coming in here and telling me about it.

Learn the meaning of "reliable news source". And then go find one.

Or shut up. Whichever.

Okay. Whatever.
Go ahead and keep telling yourself it's not true. If you want to remain stupid, then by all means go ahead. Keep saying that it can't be true because no Christian could possibly be so stupid as to believe anything in this book.

Except there are stupid Christians, just like there are stupid atheists. And those that believe this book are stupid.

Go back to your hole and have pedophile sex with your altar boy. You're obviously so closed-minded that you discredit everything that doesn't agree with you, and since you won't even open your mind as to the possibility of this, then to me you're nothing more than a coward who hides behind religion as a smokescreen, clapping your hands over your ears and screaming.

Oh, and one last thing: Practice your own faith. Read Matthew 7 again and tell me that you're living by the Bible.

Yes, the problem here is that I'm too closed-minded to see the truth (That you're fucking BRILLIANT), and not that you're incapable of putting together any sort of coherent, believable argument. You should be able to just show me some photos from an Internet blog from some asshole I've never heard of, and that should trump 44 years of my own experience AND centuries of human history, JUST because of the revealed wisdom of . . . you.

I don't have to "clap my hands over my ears and scream" to disregard you, Romper Room. Actually listening to you is much more effective in that regard.

Oh, and one last thing. I realize that atheists are THE most smug, arrogant, self-satisfied pusbags on the planet, nursing two perpetually-sprained arms from patting themselves on the back for being so goddamned (you should excuse the expression) ENLIGHTENED, but could you please explain to me what could POSSIBLY make you think that, as an atheist, YOU have fucking ANYTHING to tell me about how to practice my faith? At this point, you haven't convinced me that you have enough on the ball to advise me on being an ATHEIST, let alone to have the unutterable CHUTZPAH to lecture me on Christianity.

Get over yourself, Romper Room. You're not setting the standards for anything around here, and absolutely NO ONE gives a tin shit about impressing YOU with how they do anything.

Nice tantrum, though. My three-year-old would be impressed. Come back when you have something more to offer.
