The Lady is a biopic of the life of Suu Kyi, whose father was democratically elected to head the country of Burma, before he was killed in a military coup. Suu Kyi fled Burma and married in England, but returned to Burma when her mother was dying. I really loved this movie because it demonstrated just how courageous some people can be when it comes to helping out others. Below, I'm linking a review from Roger Ebert. I agreed with him for the most part, though I disagreed with him that the movie shouldn't have included so many scenes involving Suu Kyi's family. As he mentioned, there's a documentary of Burma that apparently covers more of the politics of the time, and people are welcome to see that as well. But to quote some lines from V from Vendetta, which I think are particularly apt if you see the "The Lady", and what I think Ebert missed:
**I have witnessed firsthand the power of ideas.
I've seen people kill in the name of them...... and die defending them.
But you cannot kiss an idea...... cannot touch it or hold it.
Ideas do not bleed. They do not feel pain. They do not love.
And it is not an idea that I miss. It is a man.**
