'Summer of summers' may set heat record

By Trevor Wilhelm, The Windsor Star July 26, 2010

It's a jungle out there.

Well, it probably feels that way as this "summer of summers" continues with high temperatures and the chance this month could become the hottest July ever.

"It's like a jungle," said Dave Phillips, senior climatologist for Environment Canada. "It is so sultry. It is no different than if your were in the Gulf of Mexico or a tropical rain forest. It's very humid and very oppressive and of course that's the stuff that fuels thunderstorms."

A powerful rainstorm rolled through the area Friday, spawning an F-0 tornado which tore through yards in Amherstburg.

If the forecast for the next several days become reality, this month will become the hottest July on record.

In Alabama...

On July 24 and 25, it was 100 degrees. It was 99 on Saturday, when the heat index was 105 or higher, said Andy Kula, senior forecaster for the local office of the National Weather Service.

And that's how July ended in Huntsville.

With an average daily temperature of 83.7 degrees, it tied for the second-hottest July on record..

Poor Chris just doesn't quite get it.

But he does do a mean cut and paste of weather reports! Have at it, Chris

I think Chris believes that if he yells it loud enough and often enough someone will believe him.

In Kentucky....

Today could be the hottest day of a scorching summer.

With a predicted high of 100 degrees, the humidity may make it feel like it’s 108 degrees outside.

“August is picking up where July left off, unfortunately,” said Mark Adams, lead forecaster for the Fort Knox weather station.

How hot was July?

While historic data for the station isn’t readily available, it was the third hottest July on record in nearby Louisville, according to the National Weather Service. June was the hottest ever.

Methinks someone has never checked what Las Vegas's average July temperature is. And they are lying through their teeth when they claim 96 degrees is the hottest average temperature for the whole month.

The actual average July temp in Vegas is 107 degrees!
