There's Pink Floyd.

Then there is the list. (imo)

well Mike Curb was a one hit wonder, but I still think it is the greatest thing in music.. the theme to Kelly's Heros.

Zeppelin, and as a matter of personal taste I always thought Hendrix was overrated. He was good, great even, but I just never understood his legendary status. :dunno:

i agree ......every time i see a "Greatest Guitarist" poll Hendrix is automatically no 1.....there are players who can play rings around Jimi and have become very influential too....and as modest as Hendrix was,he would be the first to say so......i remember a greatest guy on his instrument poll a bunch of years back......one of the posters asked one of the moderators( who maintained the polls,) why Ginger Baker went from no 1 to no 4.....the Moderator said "what has he done lately?"......the poster then said....."what has Hendrix done since 71?, yet you guys have him cemented into the no 1 spot"......

Led Zepplen the greatsist rock band ever in my opinion nobody else comes close you can keep your Beatles. there will ever be another combo like the vocals of Robert Plant, the guitar of Jimmy Page, the drums of John Bonham, they were perfect together. Theres never been anything like it in my opinion. Never show them live, I had tickets when I was in highschool 1980 but Bonham died and that was it.:(

hummm, he had to play a righty guitar strung backwards, he was phenomenally extemporaneous and had a clarity , quickness and tone that was one of a kind I think...*shrugs*

lots of guys have done that including 3 of the guys who inspired Jimi......Albert King,Otis Rush and Dick Dale.....Jimi also played a true lefty Guitar....

Along with Zep you have to include Sabbath as forerunners of heavy metal.

One of my early faves of theirs will forever be

Deep Purple is up there as well in their influence. But more importantly these tunes still just rock your face off 40 years later. That's truly amazing.

Greatest performers of the era. Being doped during that time music was something that had to be experienced and not just listened too. Many of the bands and artists were great, some over time and some for a short time. If .... and it is a big if, Morrison had not died who knows what music the Doors would have produced over the years. But what music they produced was awsome and being high and listening to that music made it .... ethereal !

My opinion is irrelevant since I played the game.
Statistically I'd go with Eric Clapton. He has always been the comeback kid.
Carlos Santana is a close second.

Santana is a one trick pony. He's very skilled but he plays in the same register all the time.

I would not compare Clapton with Santana. It's patently unfair to Carlos.

There is Hendrix and then there is the rest imho.

Hendrix did things with the guitar that no one had ever done before. Sounds came from him and astounded because you did not even know how they came from that guitar. And when you really know how to play then you really know when something extra special is coming from 'in there'.

Hendrix had so much extra. He was so much and far ahead of any guitarist at that time that it's patently unfair to even place him in the showing.

For me there are several who are in a league of their own. Where one really can't compare them. But to appreciate all of them who brought such excellence to the stage and studio.

Hendrix is a no brainer, but also Page, Clapton and a rarely mentioned Robert Fripp. All very unique. Townsend and most certainly Jeff Beck as well.

Clapton and Santana are both good choices...

I woulda stuck 'em in the poll if I'd had more'n 10 slots...

That's pretty telling. And it's true of most polls on music. There's a LOT of good music out there.

:dunno: I'm a music slut. There's too many great bands for me to commit to just one.

yea that happens when you play all fucked up......reverb and distortion......he was the best at that easily.....but to throw up a really good guitar solo.....like so many other guys did.....i dont think so.....

I just posted some Fripp and his League a few days ago. :)

I won't get into whose best anymore as it is my personal opinion.

As much as I love Pete, and I've been a Who fan since 1964, he is not a great guitarist. He is a FANTASTIC showman, and a true musical genius, he wrote and did the basic arrangements for every instrument on Who's Next as an example, but as a guitar player he is a journeyman and he admits that.

I was talking to him after a show in the 70's and Hendrix came up and he related how he took Clapton to see Hendrix in London when he had first arrived and how shattered Clapton was upon seeing him. As Pete said, "it showed us just how far we had to go".

As a couple of the musicians say in the clips i posted, Hendrix was from another planet.
