The Great Kansas (Libertarianism) Tea Party Disaster

Has Libertarianism Failed in Kansas?

Kansas is proof of what I've said before. You can't really appreciate how bad conservatism is until you see it in action, i.e.,

until you see what happens when conservatives actually get enough power to actually implement their lunacy.
It also illustrates the disaster that results when adhering blindly to failed conservative fiscal doctrine and dogma, and ignoring facts and evidence that conflict with that failed doctrine and dogma.

Very funny that Brownback doubled down on what has not worked and then couldn't figure out that the people were on to him. Gives me hope for Kansass.

Thanks for posting this in such detail.

Don't expect the RWs here to admit what's right in front of them.

"Yet in today's political climate in Kansas, traditional Republican values have been corrupted by extremists, claiming to be agents of change. It is a faction which hides behind the respected Republican brand in an effort to defund and dismantle our state's infrastructure. . . ."

This.

I would like to remind that Gov. Alfred (Alf) Landon, from Kansas, the erstwhile presidential candidate in 1936 against immensely popular FDR and who went down in history to suffer the most humiliating electoral college loss in all of history (523 FDR - 8 Landon) in a two man race even admitted after his historic defeat that Social Security, which the Republicans were screaming was socialism, was not socialism at all and that the people of the great state of Kansas WANTED Social Security.

The only reason why Alf Landon was nominated in 1936 was because officially, he was the only Governor to have balanced his state's budget in that year, but he only did it by taking the Federal $$ from the NEW DEAL and misappropriating the funds, which pissed off Kansans even more.

So, Kansans have lived through bad experiments before.

Also, to note, the last Democratic Senator from Kansas, George McGill (1930-1939), served in the Senate during all of Alf Landon's Senate tenure (1933-1937).

I want to point out another historical fact about the Breadbasket that will also shock a little:

In 1936, FDR won nationally with 60.80% to Landon's 35.84% and 2.66% for other candidates.

Among those third-party candidates was William Lemke, a Republican Representative from the great state of North Dakota, who was so pissed at Alf Landon that he accepted the nomination of the short lived "Union Party", got 1.95% nationally (the bulk of the "other" vote), but took 13.41% in his home state of North Dakota (Alf Landon only got 26.58% in ND!), 6.58% in Minnesota, 4.79% in Wisconsin, 4.40% in Michigan, 4.39% in Ohio, 3.49% in South Dakota and 2.60% in Iowa. There was a regional split in the Republican party in 1936 that most people are not aware of. Lemke even got support in Massachusetts (6.45%), Rhode Island (6.29%) and Connecticut (3.16%) on the East Coast, and on the West Coast, in Oregon (5.27%) and Washington State (2.52%). Lemkie was on the ballot in 12 of 48 states (1/4th of the Union), so had he been on the ballot in all 48 states, I bet he would have fared much better as an alternative to Alf Landon. That being said, the Union Party, which was formed by a radio Priest, was actually very to the LEFT, but attracted Republican votes.

Simultaneously, Lemke was reelected to the House of Representatives from North Dakota as a Republican in 1936. Lemke was a Republican who was a NEW DEAL Republican, but pissed at FDR over two specific farm bills. He was, however, even more pissed at Landon, whom he considered to be an especially poor candidate.

So, yes, even in some very deep red states, apparently, especially in the Breadbasket of our Union (Kansas is definitely a major part of the breadbasket), voters can turn against GOP candidates if you piss them off enough.

So, there's your breadbasket factoid for the day.

Perhaps the most significant part of this "experiment" in RW economic dogma is that it has been such a massive failure. Not even a red state can make "tax cuts" work to "create jobs". Cutting school funding suddenly became a reality when their own children were harmed by it.

So instead of this "experiment" becoming an "example" that the RW economic dogma would be a success in contrast to the "failed social policies" of Obama it has been the exact opposite.

In that respect Gov Brownback has done the nation a favor by exposing the truth about just how bad the Libertarian economics that the Koch brothers want to ram down the throats of this nation will be in practice.

Anyone who argues for RW economic policies in the future is going to be asked to explain the disaster in Kansas with a link to this thread.

Republicans in Kansas sure as hell can't blame this massive failure on Democrats: the GOP currently controls the Governor's mansion, both Senate seats, all HOR seats and has hypermajorities in both the Kansas Senate and the Kansas HOR. But 2016 polling shows an unusually close race between Hillary Clinton and the prospective GOP field. Very interesting data points.

More bad news the tea party Libertarians in KS!

New poll shows Davis widening lead over Brownback for Kansas governor The Kansas City Star

New poll shows Davis widening lead over Brownback for Kansas governor

A second consecutive poll shows increasing promise for Democrat Paul Davis in his bid to unseat Republican Gov. Sam Brownback.

A new poll out Friday shows Davis with 52 percent to 45 percent for Brownback. It was the second straight poll showing Davis above the magical 50 percent barrier against Brownback.

▪ Roughly 53 percent of the voters in the Rasmussen poll thought of the governor unfavorably. This result has been seen throughout many of the polls this election season.

▪ Fifty-eight percent of voters thought Kansas was worse off today than it was four years ago when Brownback took office. Not a very good number considering the governor’s re-election theme has been the “Kansas comeback.”

▪ Most Kansans don’t trust Brownback with taxes, another bad bellwether given that income tax cuts are his seminal achievement during his first term in office. The Rasmussen poll found that 48 percent of voters trust Davis on taxes compared to 42 percent for Brownback. Ten percent didn’t know.

And RW Rasmussen is showing Orman with a lead over Roberts for the Senate.

Election 2014 Kansas Senate - Rasmussen Reports trade

Election 2014: Kansas Senate
Kansas Senate: Orman (I) 49%, Roberts (R) 44%

Independent Greg Orman still holds a five-point lead over incumbent Republican Pat Roberts in Kansas’ unexpectedly competitive U.S. Senate race.

The latest Rasmussen reports statewide telephone survey of Likely Kansas Voters shows Orman with 49% support to Roberts’ 44%. Three percent (3%) like another candidate in the race, while five percent (5%) are undecided. (To see survey question wording, click here.)

Ninety percent (90%) of the state’s voters say they are certain to vote in this election, and among these voters, it’s Orman 50%, Roberts 46%.

Are the extremist Libertarian economic failures turning KS purple?

I've not seen much difference between Libertarians and modern day Tea Party conservatives.
Shut the fuck up. Research before you post. Unless your intention is character assassination.

Let's see how Libertarians view the Koch/Brownback alliance.

Beltway Libertarian Money Men

Thomas DiLorenzo

Charles Koch and Steve Forbes have long been major funders of the Beltway libertarian crowd. So who are they supporting for president? Koch is just wild about Sam Brownback, while Forbes is a Giuliani supporter. A Christo-fascist and an ordinary, run-of-the-mill fascist, in other words. These phony baloney “libertarians” apparently never heard of Ron Paul (who one Cato nerd once stupidly dismissed as being “too white and too middle class”).

Research before you post.

Ironic given that the date on your link is from August 10, 2007 which was when GW Bush was still in office.
It doesn't fucking matter.

The fact is that the Kansas crowd is motivated by CONSERVATIVE CHRISTIAN values not Libertarianism.

But it amazes me that the Demopublicans who have brought us the income tax, the nationalization of credit and banking, massive depressions, a behemoth federal government, unnecessary wars, but Kansas is the center of attention.

Go fuck yourself.

Your inability to provide a valid substantiation for your failed allegation on top of resorting to spurious vulgarities is a tacit admission that you have nothing of any value to contribute to this thread. Have a nice day.

Probably only temporarily, but the only thing separating KS from becoming a battleground state is the lack of one more major metropolis.

Talk about filth. Now we see a popular information source among pop-culture jerks which owes it's pop culture popularity in part for promoting drug abuse, refer to an apparent Christian politician in a derogatory way as "God's senator" and quoted by low information liberal A-holes who really think they aren't complete bigots?

No. It means you didn't bring any facts to the table. Insults and ad hominems will get you nowhere.
