Anti-immigration tone alienating Hispanics

But immigrant-rights groups and some political watchers say the damage may be irreversible. They argue that the GOP has severely hampered itself as it looks to woo the critical Latino voting bloc that could decide who wins key states like New Mexico, Nevada, Colorado and Florida next fall.

There's a reason for the urgent tone coming from Republican leaders on this matter.

The government projects Hispanics will account for roughly 30 percent of the population by 2050, doubling in size and boosting their political power. Overall, Hispanics traditionally tilt Democrat, meaning the Republican Party is looking at a threat to their future power if they don't work to make inroads with this politically pivotal group now.

Some worry that this year's eventual GOP nominee won't fare much better than McCain four years ago — and may fare worse — if candidates don't soften the way they talk about immigration.

If what happened in Georgia spreads to other GOP controlled states the GOP will alienate one of the biggest ethnic groups. If that happens you can stick a fork in them. They will go the way of the Whig party.

I am so happy with the progress the Obama admin has made with immigration. Aren't you, asswipe?

You obviously don't understand the difference between legal immigration and illegal immigration. There's a difference, you should Google it there Loosy Goosy.

One tries to remain objective with regard to the GOP’s position on this, attributing it to static conservative authoritarianism rather than racism, as their opposition to Obama is partisan, not racist.

Republicans have also done a poor job understanding the complexity of the issue, it’s not just ‘law and order,’

Bullshit. Coming into the country outside of legal channels is against the law. End of story.... if you want to read all kinds of goofy bullshit into it, then fine have at it, but it still doesn't change the FACT that coming here illegally is, illegal.

Precisely. But you note, they call conservatives 'anti-immigration' instead of accurately representing the view of conservatives as 'anti-ILLEGAL immigration'.

Exactly, if not for legal immigration, I'd not be here so therefore, I'm a pretty big fan.

Agreed. They need to come to grips with the fact that the problem has gotten too far out of hand at this point to simply start enforcing the law now and thinking they are going to deport 12 million people.

To deal with the people already here, we should pass the Dream Act for those who were brought here as children, and provide a pathway for citizenship for their parents providing they can prove they will be productive members of society and not suck off entitlements. The violent criminals should continue to be thrown out and then we should put the U.S. military on the border, rather than having them on everyone else's, to stop people from coming here illegally in the future and also to safeguard us from the rising border violence of the drug cartels.

Well, some of us have been around long enough to remember this is the exact same argument used back in the eighties... and here we sit 30 years later and all we accomplished is we gave amnesty to about 5,000,000 illegal aliens and continued to let them flood in illegally.

The most important generator of support for the GOP: Barack Hussein Obama (peace be on him).

Likewise.

I lean towards supporting anyone who was brought here illegally as a child by their parents. They should have the opportunity to become legal citizens. Their parents, however, can fuck off - they broke our laws and they should pay the price for that. I do not support rewarding anyone for breaking our laws.

There has to be a reasonable amnesty for the contributing illegals already here, and a well enforced Work ID card to stop more coming. Pass rhe Schumer/Graham immigration bill fer crying out loud.

I'm just drawing your attention to the fact that you asked me a question... and seem to be ignoring my reply. Why is that? Can you not cope with the fact that I just pointed out a dishonest representation of conservative views in the liberal media? Did you think I wouldn't be able to?

Why should they profit from breaking our laws?

Their children should be allowed to stay. The parents should fuck off home, and, if they apply legally - after a reasonable period of exclusion (say 3 years)... then they may apply and be considered for legal entry. Easy.
