Just a thought.

The "safety net" was shredded by him, giving poor people little hope. So many of them turned to crime against the "haves".

The "haves" reacted with their "war against crime" rather than addressing it's root causes.

Even today, you GOPpers are still more interested in fighting crime than addressing it's causes.

Who wanted to put a cop on every corner? I heard that Bill guy say that once.

LBJ addressed the root cause of crime with his "war on poverty". How did that turn out? Poverty increased and the National debt increased and Black families were torn apart because Uncle Sam became the new head of the household just like democrats planned.

Yeah OK you must not of been alive Carter's four years were terrible. I remember my dad going on about gas inflation etc

Oh I remember those "good old days" of Carter, the days of 18% mortgage rates, the days of every time he spoke he had a dark cloud over his head.
I remember any time I saw him on TV I would think, oh god, what's happened now!

We are still paying for LBJ's "great society". Life was simpler when the democrat party didn't have to contend with the information age. Racist former segregationist democrats managed to hire poverty pimps to keep Blacks on the plantation and the media looked the other way.

Yeah.....the Luddites never were big fans o'......

As usual.....Carter was CORRECT.....and, "conservatives" preferred to keep "bending-over & grabbing their ankles" (as Porky Limbaugh describes it)....for Middle Eastern Oil.

.....And, you'd remember that....if YOU were old-enough to remember the Carter Years, Skippy.

That's a good point, because both you and the op are more or less correct.

It's a good illustration of the apparently less than obvious similarities between the two parties that most don't see because they're too busy trying to prove one side is totally right and the other wrong.

the "good old days", the years before Reagan?

"In the summer of 1962, the management of the Academy cinema on Oxford Street in London thought it wise to warn patrons that the film they were about to see, the big-screen adaptation of John Wyndham's novel about killer plants, The Day of the Triffids, "contained graphic horror" and "might prove disturbing to those of a nervous disposition". Today, Wyndham's mutant shrubs look blandly innocuous. But on the night of Thursday 12 July, in a basement club called the Marquee, just a few feet below the cinema where the Triffids was screening, something much more unsettling was about to get under way."

Dumb ass neo-socialists suddenly see their chance to advance their class warfare and we have inane posts about "the root cause of yada yada". Ho hum.

The good old days were the days of Eisenhower. There was nothing good about the 70's.

I am guessing you weren't there when we po folk had to pay 20% interest rates on our car loans under Carter.

Those 20% interest rates had nothing to do with Carter, but worldwide inflation.

Why, do you suppose, interest rates are so low under Obama?

I guess though, I would rather be paying 20% interest on a car loan than have to worry, at every stoplight, that someone would grab me from my car at gunpoint (maybe shoot me too) and drive of in my car.

His "war on poverty" might have worked if it were more aggressive

"Just like Democrats planned"?

Have you spoken with a professional about this belief?

The crime rates were up during the Carter regime, how do explain that? It actually went down when Reagan was in office, so I am wondering where you are getting your info or are you just making crap up?

I guess that means you're all for government enabling social ills like poverty instead of addressing ITS causes. Make it so comfy they never want to leave.
