They've had herds of goats for hire out there for years.

It really is simple genius, the little bastards eat damn near anything and everything.

When I lived out there, I would see them chewing on the hillsides along the freeway through Calabasas...

Goats have been used to clear brush for well over a decade.....people are told to clear their brush on their property and if they don't, the fire dept will have it done, sometimes by goat running companies, and then bill the property owners.

They can handle the steep slopes and they'll even eat the rattlesnakes.

It just like the border. You need more than one thing to control wildfires. Goats, humans clearing brush, cutting trees and limbs, controlled burns, trenches, etc. You need all of those things because the areas to manage are so large.
