XINING, Feb. 4 (Xinhua) -- Chinese scientists said Wednesday glaciers that serve as water sources on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau are melting at a "worrisome speed," having receded 196 square km over the past nearly 40 years.

The decline is equal to about one-fourth of the area of New York City.

Xin Yuanhong, senior engineer in charge of a three-year field study of glaciers in the region, said glaciers at the headwaters of the Yangtze, China's longest river, cover 1,051 square km, down from 1,247 square km in 1971.

"The reduction means more than 989 million cubic meters of water melted away," said Xin, whose team surveyed the glaciers between June 2005 and August 2008. That much water would fill Beijing's largest reservoir.

As I said, the Flat Earthers are nothing and nobody if they haven't got this to cling to.

The science is bad, idiot. Get with the program.

Are you saying that CO2 does not cause the earth to retain heat?

Are you saying that it is? All by it's little self? It doesn't need water vapor, gravity, any of that?

It's just a magic little intelligent molecule, isn't it?

GUARDIAN NEWS SERVICE: Warming means Pyrenees ice may last only decades - Loss will have severe impact on water supplies

The Pyrenees have lost almost 90% of their glacier ice over the past century, according to scientists, who warn that global warming means they will disappear completely within a few decades.

While glaciers covered 3,300 hectares of land on the mountain range that divides Spain and France at the turn of the last century, only 390 hectares remain, according to Spain's environment ministry.

The most southerly glaciers in Europe are losing the battle against warming and could be among the first to disappear from the continent over the coming decades.

Wonder if it could have anything to do with all the pollution in China.

They like to cloud seed also. Don't know if that could effect it.

What effect will increasing atmospheric CO2 by 40% have?

Good.

Swiss glaciers are melting away at an accelerating rate and many will vanish this century if climate projections are correct, two new studies suggest.

One assessment found that some 10 cubic km of ice have been lost from 1,500 glaciers over the past nine years.

The other study, based on a sample of 30 representative glaciers, indicates the group's members are now losing a metre of thickness every year.

You're just flooding.

Get off it. The science is baaaad.

According to Nasa, anyway.

I am not a scientist. The first question is, CAN it increase that much. I suppose with a few volcanoes, major forest fires, maybe a little.

The Environazi movement demonizes CO2 because they know Bubba and everyone else would laugh them out of the room if they went after the TRUE dominant greenhouse gas, water vapor.

So, they're able to convince ignorant oafs that this gas -- which the entire planet would DIE without -- is evil, is a "pollutant" and must be stopped, simply because it's a product of combustion and evil American mankind's combustion fetish.

I'll defer to some scientists who are risking their reputation, livelihood and physical well-being fighting this religious nonsense:

“I am a skeptic…Global warming has become a new religion.” - Nobel Prize Winner for Physics, Ivar Giaever.

“Since I am no longer affiliated with any organization nor receiving any funding, I can speak quite frankly….As a scientist I remain skeptical.” - Atmospheric Scientist Dr. Joanne Simpson, the first woman in the world to receive a PhD in meteorology and formerly of NASA who has authored more than 190 studies and has been called “among the most preeminent scientists of the last 100 years.”

Warming fears are the “worst scientific scandal in the history…When people come to know what the truth is, they will feel deceived by science and scientists.” - UN IPCC Japanese Scientist Dr. Kiminori Itoh, an award-winning PhD environmental physical chemist.

“The IPCC has actually become a closed circuit; it doesn’t listen to others. It doesn’t have open minds… I am really amazed that the Nobel Peace Prize has been given on scientifically incorrect conclusions by people who are not geologists,” - Indian geologist Dr. Arun D. Ahluwalia at Punjab University and a board member of the UN-supported International Year of the Planet.

“The models and forecasts of the UN IPCC "are incorrect because they only are based on mathematical models and presented results at scenarios that do not include, for example, solar activity.” - Victor Manuel Velasco Herrera, a researcher at the Institute of Geophysics of the National Autonomous University of Mexico

“It is a blatant lie put forth in the media that makes it seem there is only a fringe of scientists who don’t buy into anthropogenic global warming.” - U.S Government Atmospheric Scientist Stanley B. Goldenberg of the Hurricane Research Division of NOAA.

“Even doubling or tripling the amount of carbon dioxide will virtually have little impact, as water vapour and water condensed on particles as clouds dominate the worldwide scene and always will.” – . Geoffrey G. Duffy, a professor in the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering of the University of Auckland, NZ.

“After reading [UN IPCC chairman] Pachauri's asinine comment [comparing skeptics to] Flat Earthers, it's hard to remain quiet.” - Climate statistician Dr. William M. Briggs, who specializes in the statistics of forecast evaluation, serves on the American Meteorological Society's Probability and Statistics Committee and is an Associate Editor of Monthly Weather Review.

So much for the "consensus." It's falling apart almost as fast as the earth's tempature is dropping, due to decreased sunspot activity.

The Global Warming Gravy Train
Ran Out of Evidence

1 The greenhouse signature is missing.
Weather balloons have scanned the skies for
years but can find no sign of the telltale “hotspot”
warming pattern that greenhouse gases
would leave. There’s not even a hint.
Something else caused the warming.

2 The strongest evidence was the ice
cores, but newer, more detailed, data
turned the theory inside out.
Instead of carbon pushing up temperatures,
for the last half-a-million years temperatures
have gone up before carbon dioxide levels. On
average 800 years before. This totally threw
what we thought was cause-and-effect out the
window.
Something else caused the warming.

3 Temperatures are not rising.
Satellites circling the planet twice a day show
that the world has not warmed since 2001.
How many more years of NO global warming
will it take? While temperatures have been flat,
CO2 has been rising, BUT something else has
changed the trend. The computer models don’t
know what it is.

4 Carbon dioxide is already doing
almost all the warming it can do.
Adding twice the CO2 doesn’t make twice the
difference. The first CO2 molecules matter a
lot, but extra ones have less and less effect. In
fact, carbon levels were ten times as high in
the past but the world still slipped into an ice
age. Carbon today is a bit-part player.

Glaciers in Antarctica are melting faster and across a much wider area than previously thought, a development that threatens to raise sea levels worldwide and force millions of people to flee low-lying areas, scientists said Wednesday.

Researchers once believed that the melting was limited to the Antarctic Peninsula, a narrow tongue of land pointing toward South America. But satellite data and automated weather stations now indicate it is more widespread.

The melting "also extends all the way down to what is called west Antarctica," said Colin Summerhayes, executive director of the Britain-based Scientific Committee on Antarctic Research.

"That's unusual and unexpected," he told The Associated Press in an interview.

By the end of the century, the accelerated melting could cause sea levels to climb by 3 to 5 feet - levels substantially higher than predicted by a major scientific group just two years ago.

Making matters worse, scientists said, the ice shelves that hold the glaciers back from the sea are also weakening.

The report Wednesday from Geneva was a broad summary of two years of research by scientists from 60 countries. Some of the findings were released in earlier reports.
