The General’s Son: Journey of an Israeli in Palestine

Check on the membership list of any Palestinian church and you'll have your roster. They are being persecuted by Palestinian Muslims. Or is Gaza one big day care center?

Deflection.

Developments in Bethlehem

“The demographics in these areas have changed drastically. Bethlehem is a prime example. Estimates show a sharp demographic Christian-Muslim shift. The Christian population went from an 80 percent majority in 1950, to a 60 percent majority in 1990, to approximately a 40 percent minority in 2000. Today the population of Christian Arabs in Bethlehem is hovering at about 15 percent of the city’s total population. It is estimated that for the past seven years over one thousand Christians have been emigrating from the Bethlehem area annually. At present an estimated ten to thirteen thousand Christians remain in the city.

“Neither the Palestinian Christian leaders nor the PA want to reveal accurate statistics. That would mean the extent of the emigration would become publicly known. They would then have to face questions about the reasons for this decline.”

Weiner points out that Yasser Arafat determined the policy that led to this demographic shift. “After the PA gained control of Bethlehem it redistricted the municipal boundaries of the city. Arafat’s motivation for the change was to ensure a Muslim majority in any elections to be held in the area. By doing so, he annexed an additional thirty thousand Muslims and a few thousand Muslim Bedouins in adjacent areas. This, combined with substantial Muslim immigration from the nearby city of Hebron, dramatically transformed the demographic reality. “Arafat also defied tradition by appointing a Muslim governor of the city. The Bethlehem City Council, which by Palestinian law must have a Christian majority, has been taken over by Muslims.

Weiner points out that...

Under the Palestinian regime Palestinian Christian have been victims of frequent human rights abuses by Muslims. There are many examples of intimidation, beatings, land theft, firebombing of churches and other Christian institutions, denial of employment, economic boycotts, torture, kidnapping, forced marriage, sexual harassment, and extortion.

In other words, Muslims are conducting the same ethnic cleansing on Christian Palestinians as they are trying to do on Christians in Lebanon, as they already did on Jews in Arab countries. And, as they are dreaming of doing in Israel. It's never been the occupation. Arab Muslims massacred Jews in Hebron in 1929 when there was no occupation and it was totally unprovoked. Muslims cannot coexist with anybody, PERIOD.

Palestinian Authority officials are directly responsible for many of the human rights violations. Muslims who have converted to Christianity are in the greatest danger. They are often left defenseless against cruelty by Muslim fundamentalists. Some have been murdered. Palestinian Christian also fall victim to the chaos and anarchy typical of PA rule. This situation is fostered by societal rigidity, criminal gangs, lack of education, absence of due process, incitement, unreliable courts, and the denial of these problems-all running counter to Israel's desire for a prosperous and stable neighbor. Muslim attitudes toward Palestinian Christians and Jews are influenced by the concepts and prejudices about their inferiority that the practice of dhimmitude has spawned in Islamic society. As dhimmis, Palestinian Christians living in Palestinian-controlled territories are not treated as equals of Muslims and are subjected to debilitating legal, political, cultural, and religious restrictions. in part, by Hamas.

It's kind of interesting, the original source for your article is from the Chairman of the Board of Fellows of the Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs and wrote a book conspicuously titled, "Academics against Israel and the Jews". It's also worth mentioning, most of the citations listed, are from the Jerusalem Post.

It's not like this is from a neutral source. But it doesn't have to be. Just because the author makes his living consulting governments on their public image, doesn't make his assertions automatically wrong. Some of them, are actually quite factual. Like the human rights violations by the PA. However, one of the reasons Hamas became popular, was because Palestinian's were sick of the corruption within the PA. Hamas is not without blame either. But the one thing that caught my eye, was this constant caveat of cleansing any blame towards Israel as one of the contributing factors. Although I do give the author credit for including this interesting comment about Palestinian Christian emigration...

...increased the emigration of Palestinian Christians involves a combination of the building of the security fence and the political anarchy that plagues the Palestinian-controlled areas. Many Palestinian Christians point out that besides the disruptions from internal Palestinian instability and lawlessness, the economic hardship and unemployment is caused by the cutoff from outside aid due to Israeli security measures that bar most Palestinians from working inside Israel. Villagers are allowed to cross the separation barriers only if they hold special permits."
So, your own article indicates Israeli foreign policy is part of the problem in that area. Now, I've admitted the PA and Hamas are part of the problem, but also included Israel as well. Can you meet me halfway and admit that the Israeli's are part of this problem and should not be held blameless? Or are you gonna roll with the standard dogma of demonizing anyone who criticizes Israel?

Palestinian Muslims made Israel part of the problem. Not only do they want to commit ethnic cleansing on the Christians, they dream of committing ethnic genocide on the Jews. So naturally the Jews end up defending themselves against these bloodthirsty savages.

Given many of the Christians in the area are Palestinians, this seems like a claim more based on fantasy than reality.

Name a Muslim country that Muslims actually don't persecute Christians and minorities.

Well, Malaysia doesn't, neither does Bangladesh, Jordan, Tunisia or Albania.

You might find isolated incidents in countries like Morocco or Turkey, but they certainly aren't the norm.

There are clearly problems in Egypt and Nigeria, but there are more countries without problems than there are with problems.

It's funny that someone who claimed the Shah never persecuted minorities despite his obvious persecution of the Kurds, Beluchs and Bahai now seems so worried about the fate of those minorities in neighbouring countries.

In 1929, Muslims attacked and massacred Jews in Hebron, a city they had been living in for 800 years. There was no occupation or state of Israel at the time. Your excuses for Islamic savagery just don't add up.

I'm not excusing Islamic savagery.

And you're not using what happened in Hebron in 1929, as justification for Israeli atrocities now.

Despite growing tensions between the Arab and Jewish communities of Palestine following the Balfour Declaration of 1917,...

On 15 August 1929, several hundred members of Joseph Klausner's Pro-Wailing Wall Committee, among them members of Vladimir Jabotinsky's Revisionist Zionism movement Betar youth organisation, under the leadership of Jeremiah Halpern, assembled at the Western Wall in Jerusalem shouting "the Wall is ours".[5] They raised the Jewish national flag and sang the song "Hatikvah" ("The Hope"), which later became the Israeli national anthem.

The attack was unprovoked, based on false rumors that "Jews were killing Muslims" The Jews were peacefully claiming their holy site, The Wailing Wall, it had nothing to do with Jews in Hebron. What's the reason Muslims are blowing up Shiite Mosques and Churches across the Muslim world, today? These lies cannot cover up Islamic barbarity. It's not and never was about an "occupation". It's about Muslim inability to coexist and Islamic savagery. INDEED.
