POLITICALWIRE.COM - "We knew that, politically, once you get it into law, it becomes almost impossible to remove it. That's not a bad legacy. The fact that we were able to lay the trap does feel pretty good, to tell you the truth."-- White House communications director Dan Bartlett, quoted by the Daily Beast, on setting a trap for Democrats on tax cuts.

Quote of the Day

Yep, they laid a trap. Only they caught America. Funny.

Howard Kurtz of the Daily Beast interviewed Andrew Card and Dan Bartlett, Bush's former chief-of-staff and communication director, and discovered how pleased Shrub and the Tulips are with the economic decay they helped germinate.

"When the tax cuts were enacted, with an expiration date, Republicans and Bush officials understood the political advantages of the 'fiscal time bomb' they were setting.

"As Kurtz puts it: 'At some point in the way distant future, Democrats could be accused of raising taxes if they tried to undo the Bush breaks and return to Clinton-era levels of taxation.'

"Democrats understood this, too: Sen. Kent Conrad (D-ND) told the Washington Post at the time that '[Bush is] going to be out of office when the roof falls in.'”

The actual costs of these cuts was carefully concealed from voters at the time of Senate passage.

"The various sunsets also hid the true cost of the bill.

"As Paul Krugman wrote at the time: 'The administration, knowing that its tax cut wouldn’t fit into any responsible budget, pushed through a bill that contains the things it wanted most — big tax cuts for the very, very rich — and used whatever accounting gimmicks it could find to make the overall budget impact seem smaller than it is.'”

'Think it's too late to send Dubya and Dick to Afghanistan?

Bush Officials Celebrate

The tax-cut extension debate has the possibility of back-firing on both parties. The GOP had better not mis-read their recent congressional wins. If the coxuckers think that they were put there to whore for the wealthy they can be bounced next election.
The GOP was put there to cut spending and restore fiscal sanity. If they fail they will lose in 2012, then they can whine about us RINOs. We're watchin what they do, not what they say...

However, the true trap was healthcare reform.

And yet the deficits were decreasing year over year through 2007.

If this was a politically motivated economy, one might suppose that the Democrats taking power and not even submitting budgets to over run might have some culpability in the current economic problems.

Of course, one might be wrong.

Amen to that, Brother. I'm not a RINO. I'm a Conservative. There Conservative Dems as well as Conservative Reps. Same goes for Libs.

I don't care about what they say. CUT SPENDING and save the rest of the crap for the talk shows.

Let's just take it back to 2008 levels and let the "experts" figure out how to get it done. We should find out soon after that how "expert" these pretenders are.

Yes, Bush and Cheney even orchestrated Obama's win in 08.

Satan. Satan and Beelzebub they are I tell ye.

Fucking morons!

LOL

Morons!

Rdean is this what your learned Dem scientists do all day, dream up stuff wrong out in the trillions column?

I am going to go on a limb here.

I am one of those "wealthy" people who will pay more taxes.
But I am also one of those who:

1) Provides full-time employment.
2) Provides medical coverage for employees and their families.
3) Through the business gives $18,000 in charitable goods and services annually prior to 2010. In 2010, about $8,000.
4) In 2009, pumped $4,580,000 into the economy through buying materials and services to manufacture our products.
5) Of that, approximately $3,000,000 was American made raw materials. The rest was Canadian and European.

I could go on.
In October we have budgeted for first quarter 2011 2 additional full-time positions. It was contingent upon two things..how the company performs Oct-Dec and whether our taxes are increased. If the taxes are raised we can only hire one.
That is a fact, no bullshit, no online fairy tale. That is reality.

Obama's centerpiece...his 'legacy'. It will be dropped and he will veto at his political peril.

And typical of most businesses that are struggling to stay alive.

True obamacare will be killed, however the republicns are picking up the healthcare agenda. I don't care what jersey they wear any type of law dealing with governmant controlled healthcare will be the vehicle used that will intrap the people.

and yet they're trying to implement the same lunacy they backed for 8 years. maybe it's time for people like you to acknowledge that you keep trying to repeat the same failed behavior.

i do believe they call that insanity.

just sayin'

Below are two images.
One is who the Democrats want you to believe that will pay more taxes.
The other is the real deal. The hard-working business owner/manager who is the very backbone of this country.

actally, that's al lie. it's what the rightwingnuts would like you to believe. cutting taxes doesn't increase jobs... or the last 10 years would already have produced them.

So your saying it is a lie that small businesses are not affected by taxes?
Is that really what your standing on?

There cannot be any true reform until TORT is adequately addressed. Until then? The political football gets kicked down the road without proper play.

History proves that tax cuts do work. What these Statists fail to ention is government spending. Cuts must work hand-in-hand with fiscal discipline.
Government has yet to show any restraint.

They keep spending on purpose to defeat the notion that cuts actually work.

No one hires someone because they have extra cash.

They hire someone because they can profit from their labor.

If you only hire one person then you can not profit off of two.

The fiscal house MUST be put in order and these tax cuts are bleeding the US of revenue.

Go back and look at the economies we had when this tax rate was 90% or 70%.

The economy did just fine.

Maybe instead of "laying traps" we should worry about cutting taxes and cutting spending so we can get this economy going again.
