Odd that the very drive to secure a stable future for offspring is what is eventually going to kill all of their, and our, offspring. A fatal flaw in the development of intelligence in animals. It provides a means of safety from predators and a means of stable food production, but it inherently wants to be and is unchecked and turns from advancement of one's own offspring into the suppression of so many offspring of other animals. It is nature red in tooth and claw projected out to its extreme with intelligence guiding the greed and self-appropriation.

The very thing that drives most people to strive valiantly for their own children so they can survive, prosper, and reproduce, is what will ultimately kill their children.

Intelligence does appear to be a dead-end in evolution when intelligence is given enough time that the entire biosphere on a planet is degraded to extinction. It gives primitive animals the ability to destroy themselves but not the wisdom to avoid it. This may be an absolute of life in the universe and why we haven't found any other intelligent lifeforms. The shortsighted greed of the ignorant, when it has harnessed the intelligence of others either by buying it or enslaving it, ignores the detriment of the many or in our case the billions in favor of the comfort of the few.

Revolutions usually take care of this problem in a bloody way but now it is a global threat to the species (and many other species) and a revolution of the entire species is highly unlikely.
