The End of Liberalism....

I think it's cute how certain people act like "liberalism" is a relatively new and fleeting concept that can be killed off by "conservatism".

You guys should get baseball jerseys and hats made up that say "Liberals" and "Conservatives" on them so you have something to wear as your cheer on your winning teams during election season.

Rather than the sports analogy, I kinda likened the last election to the baptism scene:

Just as I likened the last two elections to it?

Americans will be bickering about this same shit when you and I are dust and bones.

That is, if we are lucky.

However? Liberalism as known today bears NO resemblence of it's creator here in America...Jefferson, but Modern Day Liberalism reflects that of Marx, Alinsky, and other Leftist Boobs.

Jefferson was no boob, but would be a Conservative in today's parlence.
I doubt it, Jefferson was for public education, he increased the role of the government, and funded science and technology. Plus he wasn't a religious person. He would have either been somewhat of Goldwater conservative, but he would have no place in the republican party of the present.

But I figured that we'd keep a few liberals in a zoo, you know, so we could throw peanuts at 'em...

When we are dust and bones "... if we are lucky..."?????

That would be luck to you?

Hey, don't take the OP so seriously!

Someday people will realize that true Liberals are few in numbers for now but believe it or not, they are on the rise once again. Their numbers are increasing once again amongst Libertarians and real Conservatives. Most people still equate Liberals with also being Socialists/Progressives. This just isn't the case. The two are very different. Socialists/Progressives do not stand up for your rights. They truly believe in the State ruling your life. True Liberals would fight to the death for individual Freedom & Liberty. That philosophy is actually more in line with Libertarianism and real Conservatism. People just need to stop confusing Socialists/Progressives with Liberals. I think this will happen at some point. They'll catch on.

I suppose you missed my point.

Let me spell it out for you:

We have the luxury of sitting on our asses and arguing politics through an electronic medium in this country, because things aren't, relatively speaking, really that bad.

If we, as a nation, are lucky; we will continue to be in that position for many years to come. Long after you and I are dead.

If you want a wingnut to understand why you're saying, you will have to post a slogan

You mean: "Someday, more people will believe exactly as I do!"

I'd like to welcome you to a common delusion shared by every poster on this board.

Present company included.

I saw Newt Gingrich on Meet the Press a few weeks back saying that there is no way we should be cutting social security, which stunned me.

So, when a standard bearer of the Right is defending SS as sacrosanct, "the death of liberalism" is greatly exaggerated.

(Though I'm sure some conservatard would call Newt a "RINO.")

I didn't miss a point you made, you simply made a mistake in syntax...you do know what syntax is, don't you?

You see, when you arranged the post in this manner:

"...when you and I are dust and bones.

That is, if we are lucky."

then the "we" refers to the "you and I."

And the proof that you were in error, if I needed to provide further proof, is the agreement from Sans-Cerebrum.

Now, see, you've learned something today!

Besides yourself, who has suggested "cutting social security"?

Today's Liberals are not Socialists/Progressives and today's Socialists/Progressives are not Liberals. Most people still think they're the same thing but they're not. Socialists/Progressives do not care about individual Freedom & Liberty. It's all about the State for them. A true Liberal would not subscribe to that philosophy. Liberalism is alive, and that's not a bad thing. Libertarians and real Conservatives are who will save the Republican Party in the end. There is no hope for the Democratic Party though. Their Socialists/Progressives have plunged them into Goose Stepping madness.

Do you have to be a liberal nowadays to believe in woman's suffrage? Of course not, even the most conservative conservatives support a woman's right to vote, and yet,

a century ago, women's suffrage was a great liberal cause, and to oppose it was a perfectly acceptable conservative position.

Can you figure out from that example why there appears to be fewer liberals around?

True Liberalism has certainly faded but it's not dead. True Liberalism actually lives on in Libertarians and real Conservatives.
Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight.....as is evidenced by their quiet & unassuming nature.

Are you taking the position that preserving Social Security is now a mainstream conservative point of view?

See? That's the point I just made.

*rolls eyes* Whatever, neocon. If this is true, you might as well just declare this a corporate oligarchy and pave the entire country over to be a Wal-Mart parking lot. What righty blog did you get this off of, anyway? Ann Coulter. Pfft.

PS. LOVE how you continue to bandy around the whole Marxist/Communist crap. Sheesh. Get some new talky points, why don't you?

Commie says what?

:eusa_drool: :eusa_drool:

Sorry Buffy, your collective Utopia has been kicked to the curb. We don't want it.

Social Security was a promise made to millions of senior citizens who planned their lives around it. That needs to be preserved.

But it's insolvent.
