The Economist Calls the President "Obamateur"

Barack Obama's progress

The president has had a bumpy ride in his first two months

All this means that Mr Obama’s first two months in office are difficult to evaluate. But a few things seem pretty clear. This is a strikingly ambitious president: he wants to be “transformative” in more than just the sense of being the first black president. But so far his presidency has been vitiated by a combination of incompetence and a willingness to fall back on the very tactics that he denounced as a candidate. Indeed, his desire to be “transformative” may be contributing to his problems, distracting him from the economic crisis.

First of all, I hate to say I told you so...

If you'd like to see the new position taken by many who originally supported Obama, then read this article below.

But you voted for, defended, and supported George Dumbya's policies for eight years?

Can you point me to a thread or two you started EVER, asserting that Bush was fucking up? I'm sure posters who were REALLY against bush's policies posted dozens....are there a few that you started somewhere?

Clean your specs, dear.

What are you trying to say? That I voted Dem? Wha' ???

Somehow you see in this thread an indication that I'm criticizing President Bush? No wonder you failed your GED exam.

McCain was essentially a guy with a fighter pilot's mindset wanting to run the armed forces. I did not think much of him and am not sure what kind of president he would have been.

One thing, however, as has already been said, I do not believe he would have taken the same direction as Obama has. In fact, I would imagine one of the first things he would have done is to force everything about Paulson's 700b to be revealed. His standard of ethics is too strong.

PoliticalChic --
Please see my post today on keeping my promise to expose Obama. I am starting to keep tabs on everything ontoward from this administration. It is what one might call, "a target-rich environment".

I hope you do so, and I'm sure you will have plenty of data.

The problem is that he has four years and a Dem Congress. Europe is scolding him, and the market is speaking not so softly. But unlike the Repub capos who visited Nixon and told him the game was up, Democrats simply circle the wagons.

I understand the electorate, but it's like when you elope with the wrong boy-friend just to spite your family. Many realize the mistake they made, but what to do?

Let's hope some Blue Dogs get a backbone.

Bush Warns Of 'Long And Painful Recession'
McCain, Obama Issue Joint Statement

POSTED: 2:44 am PDT September 24, 2008

Pressing urgently for a massive financial bailout, President George W. Bush said the nation faces a "long and painful recession" if Congress fails to act. He said, "our entire economy is in danger."

They very day he said this my hubby said his business dropped off a cliff.

Bush made this mess and then made a mess of the fix.
It took Clinton, Bush, congress, and the senate to get us to this mess we're in....not just Bush.

Obama has multiplied it in ways none of us, liberals or conservatives, can get our minds around. We are heading for the brick wall.

Does anyone but me question the timing of the meltdown?

How odd that it happened immediately AFTER the election.

I mean this in all seriousness: is it your suggestion that this administration orchestrated the meltdown as preamble to a huge, left-wing power grab?

Now, don't force me to defend this administration.

I thought he meant the meltdown of his former supporters.

Congress acted and we are still facing a long and painful recession; the economy is still in danger.

'Congress acted and that's why we will face a long and painful recession' is definetely the more accurate statement.

Touche, you said it better than I.

The whole thing is a billionaire free liberaterian rebellion prompted by the election of a liberal government.

Without class warfare there's only be Americans and we'd be doing far better than most of us are now.
Come on, that's along the lines of "If ifs and buts were candy and nuts, we'd all have a Merry Christmas."
You know that class warfare is a psychological election ploy, and doesn't indicate that "we would be doing far better..."

Election ploy, eh?

And do you think tax policies and trade policies are just election ploys, too?

Wake up, PC, you're way smarter than that.

Here's the proof: you wouldn't rather live in any other country.

You presume too much.

"Conclusion. Since the 2001 and 2003 Bush tax reforms, the share of total income received by the wealthy has increased; however, their share of the total tax burden has increased even more than their income share. [quopte]

I'd like to see those numbers....especially those which include the aggregate increases in their wealth IN COMPARISON TO THE DECLINING WEALTH OF THE REST OF US.

BTW, in addition to the progressive taxes which result in the top 50% paying about 96.3% of taxes, how would you like to see the return rates: how much of federal spending goes to the top, middle and lower earners?

I'd love to see that...especially if it included how much goes to the top 1% iin the form of goverment contracts.

"Overall, we find that America's lowest-earning one-fifth of households received roughly $8.21 in government spending for each dollar of taxes paid in 2004. Households with middle-incomes received $1.30 per tax dollar, and America's highest-earning households received $0.41. Government spending targeted at the lowest-earning 60 percent of U.S. households is larger than what they paid in federal, state and local taxes. "
The Tax Foundation - Who Pays America's Tax Burden, and Who Gets the Most Government Spending?

And you believe that, do you?

The numbers indicate that over all prior to The dems taking control of the senate and house, the rich's larger share of the pot did not mean that anyone else was making much less but were in fact increasing too as the pot was growing much larger as well.

And while I do NOT doubt that the $740 bailout would have been significantly different the only major difference would have been that different sets of gangsters would have gottne that money.

Anyone disagree?

Does anyone here really think McCain would have NOT given $ 9 TILLION to the banks?

Yes, I disagee.

The motivation isn't there for McCain to take over the economic system.

Between the President and the Senator, where do you see the socialist tendencies and viewpoints?

You know who said he would like to "spread the wealth."

Fess' up: left-pollicies -> trillions in bail-outs

I agree--Left Policies are about trillions in bailouts. Unfortunately, if you are a leftist, it is where these trillions are going to that would upset you.

Remember, about one third of the 7/800+ billion is tax cuts(not left at all) and 1 trillion is going to the banks(Leftist hate bankers) so this is really 1/3 Leftist concept of bailout and two thirds financial corporatist bailout.

Understand--I do not consider all right wingers corporatist. In fact, When I think of Right wingers, I think of libertarians and (True)Anarchist.(When I think of left wingers, I think of socialists and Communists). Applicable Corporatism exist in the center--but what Obama is doing just does not make sense from my view point.

Why does he just say to hell with the private banks and start up the first Congressional Industrial Bank of the US and tell does banks no more FDIC or other "confidence building tools" to get them back on their feet. The troubled giants are starting to pain me, and I was in favor of helping them out earlier.
