The 90s wave did a lot to bring new fans to country music.
Sadly it was just a flash in the proverbial pan that was just enough of a taste of popularity to drive country into the Pop realm.
It has steadily been bastardized ever since.

I played guitar in a country/classic rock party band all throughout the 90's. I traveled to over 30 countries many of them multiple times and most of the western USA. I drank a lot and had lots of casual sex. I stayed in everything from 5 star hotels in exotic locations to shitty motels and run down band houses. I didn't like most country music then or now but I can play it well if needed. I didn't get rich or famous but it was a lot of fun. I did it for the free travel, the partying, and the pinocha and there was plenty of it my friend. :p
