The defamation of Margaret Sanger

As I understand it, US Message Board allows registered members to express their opinion so long as it is done in a civil manner.

Well, Ms. Sanger is way up high on my list of most admired people.

in my opinion, birth control is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Having unwanted children, I feel,. is not a good thing, for they become a burden to their families, and some (not all, of course) grow up to have a negative impact on society.

*****

I will NOT get bogged down in the racial accusations against her.

I just feel that NO woman (regardless of ethnicity) should be forced to have babies against her will.

You think unplanned babies grow up to have a negative impact on society? What and ignorant statement. Many unplanned children. Get adopted and do great things. My 4th was unplanned, but she is a great child and will not have a negative impact on society.

Sanger was ahead of her time

Imagine being arrested for discussing birth control and family planning?

The jerks who are against birth control today, indicating that they are for more unwanted pregnancies, orphaned children, unwanted and uncared-for children, children growing up in poverty, and children on welfare, are the same as, or are the descendants of the ignorant "conservatives" of yesteryear who resisted the Zero Population Growth movement both here and in other countries. They also resisted economic reforms in Latin America that might have made these countries economically stable. Now the same group of idiots don't want the poor coming here. There is a big case to be made here of "you asked for it and now you've got it."

These same morons have never had the intelligence or respect for women such that they would give serious and mature consideration to the fact that many or most women do not want to experience an unwanted pregnancy or the resulting parenthood. Margaret Sanger rightfully determined that there was a problem and served the needs of her clients. She had a large constituency. She did great things for women here and in other countries.

It is sad and disgusting that the "conservatives" still do not understand the problems faced by one-half of the population and those of the other half who love them. They choose, instead, to serve a very creepy, misogynistic ideology.

Smh, the leftist mental midget can help but be dishonest. Other than the abortion pill, the vast vast majority of conservatives support birth control.

The demonization of Sanger is about abortion.

Sanger started it but lots of world leaders including Woodrow Wilson and Adolph Hitler subscribed to the theory of purification of the races. Sanger never recommended aborting the offspring of White people, only the lower classes. Nobody at the time ever foresaw the carnage of abortion mills like Dr. Kermit Gosnell's house of horrors which specialized in late term abortion which involves turning a full term baby around in the birth canal causing a breach birth so that the head remains inside of the birth canal long enough to stab the baby in the back of the head and suck out it's brain with a frankenstein machine. Who benefits from abortion? Certainly it isn't the mother who might have mental problems similar to PTSD for the rest of her life or physical problems and cancer. It's the good old liberal man who is the biggest advocate of abortion. His future responsibilities are eliminated at the stroke of a scalpel while the woman is left to suffer the consequences. .

Boo hooing over a (maybe) fertilized egg? What kind of an ideology is that? Who were the idiots who thought it up? They are the same morons who run around with guns and bombs, and don't mind killing people at all. This whole anti-abortion crap is about controlling female sexuality and setting up pregnancy as some punishment for exercising it. This is sick. It is perverted. It is based on a profound hatred of women.

Why don't these people mind their own business and let women make personal decisions according to their own beliefs. People have the right to choose their beliefs and come to their own conclusions. There is no reason to demonize Sanger, who is long dead.

Think about how many people have been helped over the years by the services provided by the network of clinics she began.

It is far passed time for Congress to hold real, mature, ordered hearings about the problems associated with birth control, with unwanted pregnancy, and with people being able to obtain the medications that they need for conditions such as endometriosis, and what the American People need by way of assistance. After all, Congress seems to have the time and money for "religious freedom" hearings, and all sorts of other crap.

The Right's demonization of Sanger is just more evidence that outlawing not just abortion, but birth control, is their ultimate goal.
No, the lefts continual glorifying a eugenics plan, yet deny its purpose, is monstrous.

Possibly the USSR, possibly China had eugenics plans, if not by that name. The Soviet model failed, the birthrates were falling precipitately & getting worse through the 1960s & 1970s, as I recall. The China one-child plan was causing a lot of political resentment & draconian enforcement efforts. That plan has been scrapped, TMK.

The Nazis, now - pushed very hard for their version of a eugenics plan - but it was only promoting Aryan (whatever that may mean) procreation - to the mortal disadvantage of everyone else (except honorary Germans - Japan, Italy, a handful of others). & Hitler was a Rightest, not a Leftist. Singlehanded, he killed the name of eugenics in the West for all time, I believe.

The claims that women who have abortions are more likely to suffer PTSD, physical problems, or cancer have been debunked as the fantasies of right-wingers a long time ago. Moreover, any evaluation of such claims must be done accompanied by an assessment of what problems a woman might have after giving birth.

No one knows why the state authorities never conducted the usual inspections of medical facilities in his case. He is, however, serving a life sentence without the possibility of parole.

His was an entirely different operation from the bright, sanitary, inspected medical facilities that most of us in the U.S. have come to inspect and that state health authorities are supposed to ensure.

A while back, I encountered a person on another discussion board who insisted there were loads of horrible, dangerous facilities in which abortions were performed. I asked him whether anyone had reported these facilities to the state health officials. Crickets. I asked him just to indicate what states these facilities were located in. Crickets. This guy apparently was just trying to pull something over on us readers.

The first is untrue - see Eugenics - Wikipedia

"The concept of positive eugenics to produce better human beings has existed at least since Plato suggested selective mating to produce a guardian class.[12]

"The first formal negative eugenics, that is a legal provision against birth of inferior human beings, was promulgated in Western European culture by the Christian Council of Agde in 506, which forbade marriage between cousins.[13]

"This idea was also promoted by William Goodell (1829–1894) who advocated the castration and spaying of the insane.[14][15]

G. K. Chesterton, an opponent of eugenics, in 1905, by photographer Alvin Langdon Coburn

"The idea of a modern project of improving the human population through a statistical understanding of heredity used to encourage good breeding was originally developed by Francis Galton and, initially, was closely linked to Darwinism and his theory of natural selection.[16] Galton had read his half-cousin Charles Darwin's theory of evolution, which sought to explain the development of plant and animal species, and desired to apply it to humans. Based on his biographical studies, Galton believed that desirable human qualities were hereditary traits, though Darwin strongly disagreed with this elaboration of his theory.[17] In 1883, one year after Darwin's death, Galton gave his research a name: eugenics.[18] With the introduction of genetics, eugenics became associated with ideology of genetic determinism in which human character was due to genes, unaffected by education or living conditions. Many of the early geneticists were not Darwinians, and evolution theory was not needed for eugenics policies based on genetic determinism.[16] Throughout its recent history, eugenics has remained controversial.[19]"

(My emphasis - more detail @ the URL)

So - a half-baked idea from Darwin's half-cousin. That's where the blame for modern eugenics belongs, if anywhere.

The ascription of physical & mental issues caused by abortion to women is also untrue. The studies that purport to lead to that conclusion are themselves severely flawed.

Again PP started doing abortions well after Sanger died. She was actually against abortion, believing that birth control would make abortion irrelevant. She didn’t advocate aborting any race. She believed if you plan families better without unplanned pregnancies, then you have a stronger community. She targeted the POOR, which many minorities were part of, because she believed they were hit hardest by unplanned pregnancies!
