Hitachi scraps £16bn nuclear power station in Wales

Hitachi has scrapped plans to build a nuclear power station in Wales, becoming the second firm in two months to abandon a major nuclear project and triggering “a full-blown crisis” for the UK energy’s strategy.

The £16bn Wylfa plant on Anglesey was meant to be the next in a line of new nuclear plants behind Hinkley Point C but the Japanese conglomerate failed to reach a deal with the UK government.

A Hitachi board meeting pulled the plug on mounting costs on Thursday, and the company said it would take a 300bn yen (£2.14bn) hit from axing Wylfa.

The move was a “significant blow” to the UK’s future energy supply plans, the Confederation of British Industry said.

It doesnt make economic sense any more as renewables become cheaper and cheaper. Its all good.

Tommy, you seem to be knowledgeable about nuclear power. Did anyone ever come up with a way to safely dispose of nuclear waste, or wasn't that possible?

Not at all knowledgeable. I think the only plan is to send it to Africa which is a long way away. I think it becomes safe after 1000 years so thats ok.

Uh? Tommy, why does your article state that losing a future nuclear power plant, causes, "a full-blown crisis". This really contradicts your statement that it does not make economic sense. Could you explain how your opinion of what this means is at odds with your source?

Not to worry, Tainted One. Your masters in Brussels will allow you to purchase sufficient electricity from their magical windmills to sustain life. True, life of a marginal sort but in Wales who will notice the difference?

These plants were a central part of the energy strategy. And now they arent.

Only those living in homes that have electricity might notice any different. Wales being what it is you won't notice.

The Left hate the environment.

Yes. We need to invest more in renewables.
I did not ask that. That is two times you made sratements unrelated to your nonsensical opinion. I get it, you have no understanding of what you linked to, if you even read it all. At best you found an article that you thought confirms your imagination. Why else would you purposely not answer direct, relevant questions, of your opinion.

Perhaps you could explain what answer you would find acceptable ?
