Like Hanson or not, his analysis is very good. That and the word of the day:

Pentelic Pen*tel"ic\, Pentelican \Pen*tel"i*can\, a. Of or pertaining to Mount Pentelicus, near Athens, famous for its fine white marble quarries; obtained from Mount Pentelicus; as, the Pentelic marble of which the Parthenon is built.

Fissures in the Obama Totem

Oh, I know that President Obama’s approval ratings are still around 62%. But I also remember that George Bush’s at the end of 2001 got even higher — and stayed at or above 60% through most of 2002, explaining why he increased his congressional majority in the midterm elections. bush ratings increased due to american hysteria at 9/11. which also explains the sheep voting for gopers at midterm
Nevertheless, I think we are beginning — after less than four months — to see fissures in Obama’s Pentelic statuary. And the cracks will widen, because in about six areas he has taken on human nature itself, age-old logic, and common sense-opponents that even a Harvard Law degree and Chicago organizing are no match for. do not fault a man for taking on hard issues...not everyone could be as laid back as bush ....during katrina.1) The Rule of Law. We are on dangerous ground here with the reordering of the bankruptcy statutes with Chrysler and the UAW; with the strong-arming of stimulus money for California predicated on the protection of unions; with the serial disdain for paying taxes on the part of Geithner, Solis, Daschle and others; and with the selective release of CIA memos, hmmm oddly enough the adminstration before refused to release anything and denied the office of the vp was part of the executive branchto denigrate those out of office as veritable torturers (they should reread the transcript of Eric Holder’s 2002 CNN interview with Paula Zahn in which he grandly denies that the Gitmo detainees have any recourse to the Geneva Convention accords and can be held there for as long as we think the war lasts). What separates the U.S. from Mexico, Cuba, or Haiti is the rule of law, the protection of capital and property, the evenhanded treatment of investment, and the faith in a fair media to uncover abuse. I think that is now all in question, as the Utopian ends justify the tawdry means.but it has certianly been fine to use imminet domain in the past which is removing property and making it available for public use another thing that separates the us from cuba..the literacy rate, which i would think as a teacher you would why bush didnt do as well as castro on that area
2) Energy. We are finding more natural gas than ever. There are billions of barrels of U.S. oil in Alaska, offshore, and in shalepart of the energy crisis is our continue relationship with our so called ally saudi arabia which is more than willing to stick it to us and have you considered the costs of drilling in the anwar...where the actual amount of oil is an unknown...it could actual be very little. Yet rigs sit idle and government leases are constricting rather than expanding — and for reasons other than the economy....
as for rigs sitting idea with gov. leases...isnt it up to the company what do to with the lease once they recieved it ...or are you advocating forced drilling..that would not be the american way not would it

3) Debt. Obama has somehow already used the tax last resort. That is, his figures assume taking off FICA caps, watching the states increase their own tax rates, upping the federal rate to 40%, curbing deductions, and effectively increasing the total state and federal bite to above 65% on top incomes...the us has been a debtor country for how long? just 3 months...o my it was my understanding even under bush the us borrowed money from other countries daily...how much was the debt to china under bush?
4) Security. Very schizophrenic. WE keep FISA, Patriot Act, rendition, military tribunals (Gitmo for now?), Predator attacks, Iraq and Afghanistan, while we trash their Bush origins, apologize abroad, and try to out CIA memos to embarrass the country between 2001-8....what are you afraid of in the memos? is this the reason the foia was passed, why shouldnt american know the truth...bush without memos etc....where was your bitchin then

5). Civil Discord. In just three months Obama has caused more disunity than most presidents in recent memory figures on this claim or is it just an opinion)....(o
bull fucking shit at least americans accept his election as valid...except the insane birth certiifcate people, let's see some
6). Race relations. Here I am worried. Far from bringing us together, I think Obama’s serial emphasis on race may achieve the unintended opposite of polarization. He should have learned in the campaign (Rev. Wright, Trinity Church, typical white person, clingers, call for reparations, his grandmother — the purported prejudicial stereotyper, etc.), the perils of seeing the world through skin color. ...so now you attack his church, his family and reparations arent gonna happen and we all know that...that is just like the gopers call to stop abortion...nothing more than a hot button issue
Missed opportunity? Obama could have had a one-time stimulus, then vowed to balance the budget. He might have praised wind and solar as he asked the carbon industry to ‘get us through.’ He could have politely disagreed with Bush, but framing differences in the tragic notion of no good choices. He might have cooled the overseas apologies, savvy that other nations have more to apologize for than his own. Obama should have established zero-tolerance for tax avoidance at a time of record tax increases. He could have remonstrated with Wall Street, and sought to rein in excess without Europeanizing the financial sector. He could have proactively reformed entitlements with bipartisan support, rather than, as will happen, drastically address them in the 11th hour. But then to do all that would be to assume he never went to Trinity Church, knew no Rev. Wright, Ayers, Khalidi, etc., did not run mysterious campaigns that eliminated opponents before the elections, was not the most partisan Senator in Congress, and avoided rather crude social and racial stereotyping while campaigning. Most who read this will not agree, given the mesmerizing effect of the Obama charisma. But in time, unless there are radical changes, I think the nation will come to learn that such talent was not put in service to our collective welfare.
please list the "missed oppurtunities" by bush to capture bin laden...read "lone survivor" he notes at least 2 where they were told to stand down instread of move in on suspected areas where bin laden was being held...
There's lots more at the site, I just used the opening and closing. As I said, well thought out and each deals with issues discussed over and over again here. The real panic setting in for the liberals is they KNOW the conservatives are focused on the issues and decisions, not with name calling as they were for 8 long years....
oddly enough as much as you tell me how paniced liberals are...i dont see it....seems 60% arent paniced...looks to me like gopers are paniced by the truth of the acts of the bush adminst. coming out.

Thanks, now I know...it's fear...LOL

Oh great guess. You really showed me. BTW, have you analyzed your Emerson quote regarding Obama or yourself for that matter? Didn't think so. :eusa_whistle:

Hey Annie, do you always ask a question, and then answer it?

You started a thread - Before Racing To National Healthcare: Listen

You told us to Listen TO... a front group organized in 2009 to fight U.S. president Barack Obama's proposals for health reform started by Richard Scott, who previously started the for-profit hospital chain in 1987 that later became the $23 billion Columbia/HCA. He was ousted from this post in 1997 after an FBI investigation of Columbia/HCA that led to 14 felony convictions and $1.7 billion in criminal and civil fines for Medicare fraud.

So then I asked you what YOUR solutions were...

Your reply....silence...

What 'new' has come out? Some cherry picked memos? For that matter, where are the conservatives that have been defending Bush? Oh yeah, they pretty much gave up on him when he became a big spending 'conservative.' I and most have not forgotten his was the administration that first procured the spending that was TARP and would lead to the auto take over. It was under his watch that the strong arm of the government forced the TARP money, by threats of public audits.

Nope, it's not the GOP or 'conservatives' that are freaking. It's the policies and focus on such that has the left in perpetual campaign mode, problem for them I guarantee GW will not run again.

o its always the fault of the left isnt it....the right can do no wrong? i would like to see obama do more faster...but i will give him more than 200 days to try to correct what has gone badly wrong with this country in the last several decades

Bingo....and what the right seem to forget is that all these fucked decisions that have stuffed your system have been made by CEOs of banks and corporations. Now, tell me...how many CEOs, who are on great salaries, and multi-million dollar bonuses, do you think vote for tax-the-rich Dems? Not many, I'm betting. So not only did the righties fuck up politically over the past eight years, I reckon a good number of the decision makers who caused this meltdown are either paid up Repubs, or at least voted for them...

Which of course is your right. I don't fault the left for 'everything', in fact for the most part Obama is acting as I thought he would. I see what he's doing as dangerous, to our system of governing and also our economic system. You and others disagree and think it's the right path. Currently most agree with you. Neither the point of the op or myself is different, cracks are what they are.

Most Americans are overlooking the lunatic fringe, but YOU being part of that group is the basis of YOUR perspective

Only 7 million thats all the pendulum will swing fools and it only has to be 4 million or a little less, when the children have to earn there own and mom and dad stop paying watch how they want a Mercedes
not a Hyundai, Capitalism here we come. The fact that Americans want more and not less or the same for all is always the driving force behind success.

President Obama has not had four months in office, yet. We shall see how his policies play out. But after eight years of Bush, we are all aware how his, and his supporters, policies played out.
The old, "Boooooosh" comparison, in defense of the Obamessiah.... Your intellect is that of an amoeba if you cannot see how flawed that argument is.
Incompetance, failure, and idiocy are hardly a good platform for critisizing the present administration from. If Obama's policies fail, then I, and most Dems, will call him on it. We will not be kissing his ass like you fellows still do in defending criminal actions of the last administration.
Actually, most folks I see "defend" against the lies about the Bush years, much like those you have so expertly regurgitated for us here.

The local leftist repsonse to this is so predictable it is laughable. Of course the panic hasn't set in yet. It won't until the so-called misery index is double in all components or at least 2 of 3. So far blaming Bush is working but at some point in time it becomes your problem for not having fixed it. And given that presidents usually get blamed for economic disasters wrought by those in congress you get an extra bit of time before this set of chickens come home to roost.

"He had to spend all that money because the previous admin screw up."

Um no he didn't. And he sure as hell didn't have to spend it on the usual bullshit leftist always spend money on when they're in power. I'm sorry but people who actually look at these things and pay some attention will eventually figure out and make known the fact that economy peaked shortly after the Dems took back control of the senate and house and the economy has been on the down hill slide ever since. They'll also figure out after a while that paying wall street to buy stock (the bail out money) might create another temporary bubble but it won't last forever. And then crash. Not to mention which boosting the money supply to such an extent as is necessary because no other country in the world can afford to buy all of our debt or even most of it is going to get some really big inflation numbers going which the fed will then in it's infinite wisdom try to bring to a halt by raising interest rates and this will compel the government to raise taxes in order to provide the same level of services the sheeple have come to expect. And we are right back to 1979.
