The pending failure of the Governments of Puerto Rico and Illinois are a stark and worrying reminder of the damage that the Democrat Party and its Devil's Bargain with government employee unions is soon going to visit on all Americans. When the collapse comes, we must never forget who is to blame.

There are certain philosophical principles that Democrats hold and while I don't completely share them, they are at least understandable for rational Americans:
  • The protection of the Poor and "minorities,"
  • The improvement of the rights and position of Wimmin,
  • The protection of the environment,
  • Fighting for the interests of the "working (wo)man,"
  • and so on.
But the Democrat party has a darker side that I find so troubling that I could never see myself supporting Democrats in any meaningful way.

Democrat politicians' most basic programme is to buy votes with taxpayers' money. It's just that simple. at least 75% of the Democrat platform in any given year is simply a number of initiatives designed to carry out this campaign.

  • Throughout the country, Democrats have taken the past 50 years to buy off the millions of government employees with inflated pay, incredible employee benefits, early and generous retirements, and a paycheck that is virtually guaranteed for life. Sometimes this is done through concessions to unions and sometimes - as with Federal "GS" employees - it is just year after year of unreal compensation increases. As a result, the millions of government employees around the country are, statistically speaking, in the pocket of the Democrat party.
  • The War on Poverty is, at its base, a costly, unconstitutional campaign to extract money from the pockets of American taxpayers and deposit it into the pockets of people whom the Democrats have convinced that they have no hope other than the hope of further Government benefits. And Democrats have at the same time constantly campaigned to ENSURE that the beneficiaries of this largesse VOTE - knowing that they will always vote for the party that keeps the money flowing in. Voter ID laws are a challenge to this campaign because the beneficiaries are so helpless (because of total reliance on government) that they have a hard time coming up with one.
  • An increasing Minimum Wage, while not usually thought of in these terms, is nothing more than a "tax increase" on the customers and employers of those at the economic bottom. Whom do you think pays the extra hourly amounts? The tooth fairy? When the government mandates that you pay something for which you get nothing in return (no more food, no better service), that is, in economic effect, a tax increase.
  • The push for "immigration reform" is nothing more than a campaign to get more and more immigrants on the dole (welfare, food stamps, SSI, housing subsidies, in-state tuition, etc), knowing that these people and/or their children will inevitably be reliable Democrat voters. (This is why HRC always describes them as "hard working"; she is aware that more than half of them are either completely non-working, or working "under the table" and paying no taxes).
And getting back to Puerto Rico and Illinois, is it a coincidence that essentially all of our Democrat-controlled large cities (and their associated school districts) are hotbeds of fraud, waste, and abuse, and are economic basket cases to boot?

Oh yeah, Vote Democrat for more of the same.
