Earlier this year, Democratic operatives looking for the best way to define Mitt Romney discovered something interesting about Paul Ryan's budget. The New York Times reported that when the details of his proposals were run past focus groups, they found that the plan is so cruel that voters “ simply refused to believe any politician would do such a thing.”

In addition to phasing out the Earned Income Tax Credit that keeps millions of American families above the poverty line and cutting funding for children's healthcare in half, Jonathan Cohn described the “America that Paul Ryan envisions” like this:

Many millions of working-age Americans would lose health insurance. Senior citizens would anguish over whether to pay their rent or their medical bills, in a way they haven’t since the 1960s. Government would be so starved of resources that, by 2050, it wouldn’t have enough money for core functions like food inspections and highway maintenance.

Predictable as the sun rising in the morning.

So "Democratic operatives" described in THEIR words the ideas of their opponent and their strawman fallacies came out sounding cruel?

Gee, color me surprised.

Not.

I wonder if I told a focus group that Barack Obama plans on bankrupting all 50 states with ObamaCare to the point that the only way your grandmother will be able to find shelter will be to bunk with a rapist in prison, would that focus group consider Obama's plans to be cruel?

You think?

Then why don't you check for yourself? Here is the Ryan's budget (see the table at the end):
http://budget.house.gov/uploadedfiles/chairmans_mark_fy013.pdf

And here is what White House plans to spend:
http://www.whitehouse.gov/sites/default/files/omb/budget/fy2013/assets/32_1.pdf

Over the next decade, Ryan plans to spend about 16 percent less than the White House on “income security” programs for the poor — that’s everything from food stamps to housing assistance to the earned-income tax credit. (Ryan’s budget would authorize $4.8 trillion between 2013 and 2022; the White House’s would spend $5.7 trillion.)

And so on..

Predictable as the sun rising in the morning.

Romney made more than $20 million in 2011. He's the one who wants a tax decrease, funded by more debt and an increase on middle class earnings. Is it too much to ask that Romney pay more than 13%?

Q: Should the rich pay more taxes?

A: Oh, hell yeah! Fuck yeah! The 1% are Vampire Squids sucking the financial life blood out of this country, the need to pay pay pay pay payyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!

Q: Should your Boss fire you so he's able to pay higher taxes?

A: What? Who? Nobody told me there were consequence! WTF!
