For the most part, when it comes to communism, Socialism, and every iteration thereof, Leftists cannot see or recognize any iniquity.
And that extends to refusing to admit the success of the economic and political thesis known as conservatism.

One Liberal wrote this in a recent article in the WSJ:

"It is time to admit that American liberalism is in deep crisis: a crisis of imagination and ambition on our side, a crisis of attachment and trust on the side of the wider public.
Ronald Reagan almost single-handedly destroyed the New Deal vision of America that used to guide us."
The Liberal Crackup

Let's go over the reasons for this.

They...Liberals, Democrats, Socialists, Marxists.... so very much want communism to be correct and successful, that the Left's pundits both ignore the truth, and lie about it.

1. "...Western leftists [suffered from] an intellectual disability when they gazed upon the Soviet Union....they failed to notice the transformation of their own...economies by Reaganism....

Almost all the intellectual energy of ....leftists was spent in attempting to demonstrate the failure of [Reagan's] policies by criteria that were short-term, parochial, and irrelevant to the dramatic character of the economic changes that [Reagan's policies produced]."
John O'sullivan, "The President, the Pope, and the Prime Minister: Three Who Changed the World," p.257-258

2. One cannot help but laugh when reading the prognostications, predictions, pronouncements from one Leftist after another.... John Kenneth Galbraith, Lester Thurow, Paul Samuelson, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Seweryn Bialer, Strobe Talbott.....one after another praising the success of the USSR, and claiming how tales of impending demise were simply untrue.

And this....right up to a year before the Soviet collapse!!!

Yet....these are the 'experts' taught to this day in our universities.....and the real expert, Ronald Reagan....despised in those precincts.

3. The 'dupes' were still viewing Potemkin Villages.
A dupe is one who is easily deceived or fooled. As far back as Washington’s Farewell Address, we find the warning against dupes: “Real patriots who may resist the intrigues of the favorite are liable to become suspected and odious, while its tools and dupes usurp the applause and confidence of the people, to surrender their interests.

In the early years after the Bolshevik Revolution, the communists used manipulations, such as the Potemkin Villages, to persuade the world how admirable and successful the revolution had been. One technique was to invite prominent American and British leftists to take carefully planned tours. And these ‘Potemkin Progressives,’ for the most part, behaved and thought just as they were meant to. Lenin, and then Stalin, carefully arranged the tours so that these progressives would then go back to their countries and praise Soviet Russia, and tell of the amazing success of communism. See Dr. Paul Kengor, Hoover Institution, Stanford “DUPES: How America's Adversaries Have Manipulated Progressives for a Century

For dupes such as these 'Potemkin Progressives'.... John Kenneth Galbraith, Lester Thurow, Paul Samuelson, Arthur Schlesinger, Jr., Seweryn Bialer, Strobe Talbott...trips to Potemkin Villages wasn't necessary. Long after Franklin Roosevelt has sworn that Communist Russia was what we should honor, and hope to be, they continued to carry that banner.

Imagine how quickly any college course telling the truth about the Soviet Union, or revealing the success of Reagan's economic policies...

...would be shut down.

Wow wow wow, finally. One of the few liberals (actual liberals) who gets it. Sadly, the points made will be ignored.

===

The classic Democratic goal of bringing people from different backgrounds together for a single common project has given way to a pseudo-politics of self-regard and increasingly narrow and exclusionary self-definition. And what keeps this approach to politics alive is that it is cultivated in the colleges and universities where liberal elites are formed.

===

Conservatives complain loudest about today’s campus follies, but it is really liberals who should be angry. The big story is not that leftist professors successfully turn millions of young people into dangerous political radicals every year. It is that they have gotten students so obsessed with their personal identities that, by the time they graduate, they have much less interest in, and even less engagement with, the wider political world outside their heads.

===

Over the past decade a new, and very revealing, locution has drifted from our universities into the media mainstream: Speaking as an X…This is not an anodyne phrase. It sets up a wall against any questions that come from a non-X perspective. Classroom conversations that once might have begun, I think A, and here is my argument, now take the form, Speaking as an X, I am offended that you claim B. What replaces argument, then, are taboos against unfamiliar ideas and contrary opinions.

===

Black Lives Matter is a textbook example of how not to build solidarity. By publicizing and protesting police mistreatment of African-Americans, the movement delivered a wake-up call to every American with a conscience. But its decision to use this mistreatment to build a general indictment of American society and demand a confession of white sins and public penitence only played into the hands of the Republican right.

===

The politics of identity has done nothing but strengthen the grip of the American right on our institutions. It is the gift that keeps on taking. Now is the time for liberals to do an immediate about-face and return to articulating their core principles of solidarity and equal protection for all. Never has the country needed it more.

Mac is in heaven. He found another milquetoast liberal ( there are many ) who doesn't want to rock the boat too much in pursuit of total equality. The fear of upsetting the oppressors too much, thereby making people who would be sympathetic to the cause become obstacles is the reason most often given by these types.

I'm gonna use a word Mac will love here. Get ready.

If you think BLM is too aggressive and has thus done more harm than good by making regular folks who really want everyone to be treated equally abandon that principle, you come from a place of privilege and refuse to acknowledge it.

I state with certainty that the media coverage of riots, social media of racial hatred, and many other things coming from BLM, supporters, and due to BLM and supporters, has flavored people's opinion about what they stand for.
People don't question "Can we all be better to each other?"
They start to question the people whom set their own neighborhoods on fire.

I don't see a link, but if that is from the NYT article quoted in the OP, it was a spot-on analysis.

Actually....I believe the Democrats/Liberals have learned a lesson....and the desire for power and for winning will dictate the changes.
I've been predicting this since the election, and you will find that thesis here:
You White Folks Are Gonna Benefit...

Of course you do. You are a guy who stands for equal treatment for all under the law. You just think there is no rush. No need to get all uppity. Right? That will only make you throw up your hands and walk away from the cause. I get it.

All the right wing prefers to do, is cut taxes for the rich, cut social services for the poor; and, blame the poor for being poor and claim it is an Individual problem of the poor.

Torch-wielding white nationalists march on University of Virginia ahead of massive rally

From the Link:

Charlottesville mayor Mike Signer said in a statement of the torch-bearing white nationalists, "I have seen tonight the images of torches on the Grounds of the University of Virginia. When I think of torches, I want to think of the Statue of Liberty. When I think of candelight, I want to think of prayer vigils. Today, in 2017, we are instead seeing a cowardly parade of hatred, bigotry, racism, and intolerance march down the lawns of the architect of our Bill of Rights ... I am beyond disgusted by this unsanctioned and despicable display of visual intimidation on a college campus."

Bed wetters are deliberately ignorant and resist information that compromises their programming. The interior of a libturd's skull is like a black hole of ignorance. No matter how bright a beam of truth you thrust in their ear, you will never penetrate it.

They're devoted to ignorance so completely they will struggle to prevent others from basking in the light of truth. Most of them are simple, vacuous lemmings and drones. Their masters are the most sinister, and utterly evil sociopaths in the world. If not for the 2nd Amendment, the world would have been lost to the global collectivist agenda decades ago and the few million people left alive would resemble an ant colony.

The Left is about to pull the rug out from under you, and you haven't caught on yet....

As I said in a previous post...
NOW the biggest problem for the Left is toning down the half-heads who they sent out to post all those lies about the Trump administration.
Their acolytes are still foaming at the mouth, and posting about Flynn, obstruction, collusion, impeachment, and all the other slanders.

I hope you recognize your description there.....

The Liberal leadership recognized the failure they've wrought, and will make the adjustments necessary to regain power.
We may even find them to be the party of JFK and Scoop Jackson, as soon as they jettison the morons who demand more radicalization and less and less Americanization.

BTW....welcome to the board and the battles.

Life seeks balance in all things, and looking at two parties without the blinders of an ideology, we can clearly see the social-politics animal struggling to match the atrocities each commit.

Sooo....the best you can do, half-head, is claim "seee...you have insane, anti-American radicals on your side, too......

None of the folks you've tried to identify as the Right represent Right-leadership.

blm is not about equality, its about racial separateness. blm wants separate black classrooms, workplaces, entertainment, and even a separate country. It is more racist than the KKK in its heyday. Wanting special treatment of any race based on race only is a racist act. Why is that so hard for you to grasp?

So, this is about equal treatment under the law? Really? How about equal treatment for the criminal acts of Hillary Clinton, Loretta Lynch, Comey, Bill Clinton, Weiner, Huma, Wasserman Schultz---------------------hmmm, why are those people not subject to equal treatment under the law?
