The battle for Palmyra is not over

U.S. Responds to Russia’s Military Escalation by Attacking Palmyra

"The recent arrival of the Russian Marines has agitated the United States (U.S.) and their allies, as the recent military build-up by both countries is reminiscent of the Cold War years in which they participated in a number of proxy wars around world.

To rival Russia’s proliferation of arms and soldiers in western Syria, the U.S. Air Force responded with a series of airstrikes over the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions inside the Homs Governorate cities of Al-Quraytayn and Palmyra (Tadmur) on Friday.

According to a military source inside Syria, the U.S. Air Force struck ISIS’ positions four times on Friday afternoon, targeting the terrorist group’s movements along this vast desert area inside the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

These airstrikes marked the first time the U.S. Air Force has attacked ISIS inside Palmyra; however, this is not the first time they struck east Homs, as three weeks ago, the U.S. Air Force bombarded the terrorist group at the ancient Assyrian city of Al-Quraytayn.

The purpose of these U.S. airstrikes is unknown and rather peculiar due to the absence of Kurdish and rebel forces at this desert front located 50km from the provincial capital of Homs.

Oddly enough, a contingent from the Russian Marines has been deployed to the outskirts of Homs City in order to train the new recruits from the civilian-led “National Defense Forces” (NDF); these airstrikes were likely to catch their attention."

Breaking: Syrian Army Captures Talat Al-Sawda’ After Recovering Jazal in West Palmyra

"Earlier this morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – continued their counter-offensive in the Jazal Mountains, capturing the entire town of Jazal, which is located northwest of the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur).

Following the capture of the aforementioned town, the Syrian Armed Forces pushed their way to Talat Al-Sawda’, where they engaged the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) in an intense series of clashes, killing 16 enemy combatants from the terrorist group before they were able to seize full control of this strategic hilltop located east Jazal.

The Syrian Armed Forces did not stop there: moments after seizing the hilltop at Talat Al-Sawda’, the SAA’s 67th Brigade pushed east towards Talat Al-Deeb; this is another hilltop that ISIS took control of during their recent offensive in the Jazal Mountains.

If the Syrian Armed Forces can recapture Talat Al-Deeb, they will be in position to take control of the road that stretches from the ancient city of Palmyra to the town of Jazal in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

For ISIS, the loss of Jazal puts them at a strategic disadvantage due to the rugged landscape they are currently combatting the Syrian Armed Forces for inside east Homs."

Northwest Palmyra: Syrian Army Captures the Jazal Mountains

"Last week, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) surprised the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) with a full-scale assault on the Jazal Mountains in the ancient city of Palmyra’s northwestern countryside; this attack resulted in the capture of Jazal and half of the Jazal Oil and Gas Fields located directly west of the town.

However, ISIS’ success did not last very long, as the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with the Liwaa Assoud Al-Jabal (Lions of the Mountain Brigade) and Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – launched a counter-offensive to recapture this strategic area in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

Much to the terrorist group’s surprise, the Syrian Armed Forces were not passively striking the ISIS militants; instead, they relentlessly pounded the terrorists with mortar shells and rockets before they would storm the town of Jazal with wave after wage of soldiers.

Their perseverance paid off: the Syrian Armed Forces took full control of the two hills that sit to the south of Jazal, along with the contested town on Saturday afternoon.

With no answer to the Syrian Armed Forces’ ferocious assault, the ISIS terrorists were forced to withdraw south towards the city of Palmyra after sustaining heavy casualties and the destruction of their main hideout."

Russian Satellite Imagery Helps the Syrian Army Progress in Palmyra: Tal SyriaTel Captured

"The Russian military advisors in Syria have worked wonders for the Syrian Armed Forces, as they have provided exclusive intel to the commanding officers operating on the battlefield.

With access to satellite imagery via their Russian military advisors, the Syrian Armed Forces capitalized on the exclusive information provided to them by intensifying their large-scale assault on the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur).

On Sunday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) and Hezbollah – attacked the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) at the imperative hilltop of Tal SyriaTel, killing over 20 enemy combatants, while also destroying 4 armored vehicles that were mounted with 23mm anti-aircraft machine guns.

Following a long and violent engagement, the Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance took full control of Tal SyriaTel after the terrorist group was unable to maintain their ground near the Qassoun Mountains.

According to a military source in east Homs, the recent bombing campaign in Palmyra was extremely effective, thanks in large part to the satellite imagery provided to the Syrian Air Force from their Russian military advisors.

The source further added that the Syrian Armed Forces are closer to Palmyra’s city walls than the previous three months; if recaptured, the Syrian Armed Forces could continue to push east in order to reopen the Palmyra-Deir Ezzor Highway."

Syrian Army Surrounds Palmyra While Russian Satellite Imagery Boosts the Air Force’s Efficiency

"The Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Hezbollah – have quietly advanced in Palmyra’s western countryside, as their counterparts in the Syrian Arab Air Force (SAAF) pound the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) positions from the air.

Recently, the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” and their allies from Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) recaptured the Jabal Jazal after ISIS terrorists launched a large-scale assault on their defensive positions at the numerous hilltops and oil/gas fields inside this mountainous region of east Homs – it took two weeks to reverse the terrorist group’s gains.

With Jabal Jazal under their control, the Syrian Armed Forces quickly crept back to the Ancient Quarries of Palmyra, where they encountered the same ISIS units that launched the offensive on their positions two weeks earlier.

Meanwhile, the SAA’s 67th Brigade has steadily advanced in west Palmyra, despite ISIS’ repeated attempts to reverse their gains at the groves of Al-Bayarat; this usually works against the terrorist group, as the Syrian Armed Forces capitalized on their failures by taking full control of Tal SyriaTel.

Tal SyriaTel is a small hilltop that is located close to Palmyra’s western gates; it was one of the last sites captured by the terrorist group before they imposed full control over this ancient city in east Homs.

While the Syrian Arab Army advances on the ground, the Syrian Air Force rules the skies above Palmyra, thanks in large part to their Russian advisors that have provided them with imperative details regarding the terrorist group’s movements.

On Monday, the Syrian Air Force struck a number of ISIS’ positions around the city of Palmyra, killing an estimated 40 enemy combatants, while destroying a half dozen armored vehicles.

The Syrian Air Force has become far more effective at this desert front due to the recent arrival of Russian military advisors that have provided the Syrian Arab Army’s Central Command with satellite imagery regarding ISIS’ movements around the country."

Syrian Army Inches Closer to Palmyra as Russian Jets Scope ISIS’ Positions

"It should come as no surprise that the Syrian Arab Army’s (SAA) battle against the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) is being closely monitored by their Russian military advisors; however, as of recently, the Russians have escalated their participation by utilizing their air assets to conduct reconnaissance missions around the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside.

On Friday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) and Hezbollah – continued their advance towards the ancient city of Palmyra, targeting the terrorist group’s defensive positions to the east of the strategic hilltop at Tal SyriaTel.

According to a military source in the Homs Governorate, the Syrian Armed Forces and Lebanese Resistance killed over 20 enemy combatants from ISIS on Friday, including a number of foreign fighters from Dagestan, Tunisia, Libya, and Saudi Arabia.

North of Palmyra, the Syrian Arab Army’s “Tiger Forces” – in coordination with Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) – captured the remaining gas wells at Jabal Al-Sha’ar (Poet Mountains) that the ISIS terrorists seized two weeks ago during their abrupt offensive in the Jazal Mountains.

To add to ISIS’ plight in east Homs as of late, the Russian Air Force flew a number of reconnaissance missions on Friday; these flights specifically monitored the terrorist group’s movements around the vast desert surrounding the ancient city of Palmyra."

Syrian Army Eyes the Ancient City of Palmyra: Ground Operations to Begin Soon

"It has been almost two months since the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) have advanced towards the ancient city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in the vast desert landscape of east Homs; and since then, the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham (ISIS) has managed to recapture several points around the city and turn the Qatari Villa into a permanent military base.

However, this is expected to change in the coming weeks, as the Syrian Arab Army’s Central Command has ordered the soldiers stationed in east Homs to restart ground operations.

The last time around, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with the Tiger Forces, Hezbollah, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade) and the National Defense Forces (NDF) – recaptured several sites in the Palmyra countryside, including the imperative hilltop of Tal Syriatel that overlooks the west district of Palmyra.

Unfortunately, the Syrian Armed Forces have since lost the hilltop at Tal Syriatel, the Palmyra Diving School, and the eastern groves of Al-Bayarat; this leaves them about 10km away from the Qassoun Mountains that overlook Palmyra’s west district.

The Syrian Armed Forces have a special weapon this time – the Russian Air Force is expected to lead the charge to Palmyra, giving the Syrian Arab Army’s infantry units a substantial boost against the sporadic ISIS forces that move freely through this desert terrain.

Another factor the Syrian Armed Forces have on their side is the weather: the summer months proved very difficult to maneuver in the desert, as the temperature greatly exceeded 35 degrees (Celsius) on a number of occasions; thus, requiring the Syrian Arab Army’s infantry units to fight not only ISIS, but also, the scorching desert heat.

Should the Syrian Armed Forces recapture Palmyra, they will be in position to strike the integral city of Sukhaneh that is situated along the main road that leads to the Deir Ezzor Governorate’s province capital."

Syrian Army Restarts Palmyra Operations With the Help of Russian Airstrikes

"It has been two months since the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has taken the offensive in the Homs Governorate’s eastern countryside; however, they have returned to this front with a vengeance and with a little help from the Russian Air Force, who can be seen patrolling the vast desert landscape that surrounds the Homs-Palmyra Highway.

On Thursday morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 67th Brigade of the 18th Tank Division – in coordination with the National Defense Forces (NDF) of Sadad, Liwaa Suqour Al-Sahra (Desert Hawks Brigade), and the Syrian Social Nationalist Party (SSNP) of Sadad – began their assault at the eastern groves of Al-Bayarat, where they targeted the Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham’s (ISIS) frontline defenses in order to regain control of the road leading to the ancient city of Palmyra.

The firefights between the Syrian Armed Forces and ISIS were ongoing all day, as the former was able to bypass the terrorist group’s defenses and establish control over parts of Al-Bayarat.

In addition to the battle for Palmyra, the National Defense Forces struck ISIS outside of the desert-town of Maheen, killing several enemy combatants and destroying two armored vehicles that were mounted with 23mm anti-aircraft machine guns.

While the Syrian Arab Army and their allies were busy combatting ISIS on the ground, the Russian Air Force’s SU-24 fighter jets took to the skies of Palmyra to in order launch several airstrikes on the terrorist group’s positions in this desert area; specifically, their main target was the highway ISIS uses to resupply their units in east Homs.

The city of Palmyra holds no strategic value due to its location in the middle of the Syrian Desert; however, the battle for this ancient holds sentimental value to the Syrian population, as its illustrious history is intertwined with their cultural achievements."

you comment is very subjective. I have no interest at all in how many
muslims are killing each other in Syria or Iraq. I have no interest at all
in the baseball world series either. Your comment on my "ass" is vulgar--

That which is going on in the Levant today is a manifestation of the filth of

Its you and your likes who are frenetically celebrating war. The Syrian army is multi-religious by the way.
