The “anti-austerity” riots in Greece

That's mild in comparison to what's coming here in America. This country is ARMED.

Ohhh, we're so skeered...a few thousand cowboys up against the United States military?

You seem to think that it will be right wing riots. It'll be the left - that's whose rioting in Greece.... those who are gonna lose the welfare tit. That's who they're talking about, maggie. You seem to think it would be right wing riots. Right winger know how to do austerity. It is liberals who have a problem with it.

...Despite the efforts for modernization of the public sector – especially after 1996 – the major problems weren't solved: tax evasion, financial mismanagement and debt accumulation.

The 'Metapolitefsi' reached its peak in 2004 when Greece organized the glorious – but costly – Olympic Games in Athens. The world admired the capability of such a small nation to successfully organize such an important event of international importance. But the truth is that Greece had actually swept all the dirt under the carpet. During the last five years, the center-right government of Costas Karamanlis failed to capitalize the positive effects of the Olympiad. On the contrary, the Greek political leadership completely lost its contact with people and their needs, sinking into numerous scandals.

However, we shouldn't exclusively scapegoat the Greek socio-political system for today's failure – Europe has its own responsibilities. Contrary to its fellow EU members Greece lies in a historically and diplomatically troubled area. Being a neighbor of traditionally trouble-making governments, such as the ones in Ankara and Skopje, Greece spent billions of drachmas and euros during the 'Metapolitefsi' for military equipment. Although a member of the EU since 1980, Athens never gained any concrete guarantee from the EU regarding the security of its eastern and northern borders – the failure for the creation of a common Foreign and Security Policy within Europe forced Greece to buy preposterously expensive weaponry for defense purposes. Its therefore not an exaggeration to say that some of those who today blame "Greek corruption" have contributed to this situation, directly or indirectly.

American Chronicle | The Tragic End of Metapolitefsi

I see three things here. One is total crap about the military problems or Greece. Another is the strong similiaries of Greece to America's problems in some regards. Finally, the inability to fix those problems. BTW, why is it the TRAGIC END of Metapolitefsi as the article title states? Sounds like they should have ditched it form day one.

Anyone want to bet against those guys throwing rocks all 'ninjaed' up are professional protesters assigned to stir up trouble?

Professional protestors? From where? What is their job description? How much to they get paid? Is there a health plan?

Good questions, but I don't think they will let us protest from our keyboards.

You dont think spending so much money on the military could cause some problems? The EU should have given assistance to help protect the border.

Tax evasion was an acceptable policy. That means no one paid taxes.

"Greek finance ministry is using Google Earth software to track down the owners of (the) pools, which tax inspectors consider an indicator of wealth, and which have often been built illegally."

No one capitalized on the Olympics either.

This is no indicator of what could happen here. To say so is ludicrous.

You are totally clueless. Note the parts I put in bold. The Greeks are to blame for the Greeks problems period. We are closer everyday to having no one paying taxes here. When was Greece invaded along their border since the 40's?

Ohhh, we're so skeered...a few thousand cowboys up against the United States military?

I'll take "What is the Posse Comitatus Act of 1878" For $1,000 Alex...

And I would win by quoting Article III, Section 3, of the Constitution with regard to treason, which would trump that act:

Treason against the United States, shall consist only in levying war against them, or in adhering to their enemies, giving them aid and comfort. No person shall be convicted of treason unless on the testimony of two witnesses to the same overt act, or on confession in open court.

The Congress shall have power to declare the punishment of treason, but no attainder of treason shall work corruption of blood, or forfeiture except during the life of the person attainted.

When the Riots come to the USA it will be 50 - 60 large cities all at once just after the US Armed Services are devastated on the Iranian plateau and the economy starts to unravel as oil soars past $300 the barrel. ACORN and their allies have been laying the groundwork for a good while.

Hey, it's got the word "posse" in it, so the cowboys get all excited. If any member of the U.S. military chose to fight with alongside militants against the United States Government, they too would be considered traitors.

Ludricrous...but wishful thinking on Pale Rider's part....he's like Charles Manson...hoping for a race/class war.

And you're worst nightmare, dyke.

:lol::lol::lol::lol::lol:

I would love to see farmer land cowboys try to take on the army and such

And what makes you think "the Army" is going to side up with liberals when it mainly consist of conservatives?

Moron.

So according to you, this war being waged by Tea Partiers and the like really IS all about liberal vs. conservative politics? And not about seeking smaller government and better representation? Gee, thanks for confirming that you're part of the fringe element that the Tea Party needs to squash openly and completely if it hopes to legitimize itself.

Why is it always the people that are the worst workers are always the best rioters. If the rioters worked as hard as they bitched and complained Greece would have no problems!

they are rioting cause greece raised the retirement age from 53 to 55.. work is not something sugar titty suckers are used to..
Just imagine a 20% cut across the board to all non-essential social services and subsidies in this nation. Most of that can be done by laying off workers. I'm sure the SEIU will turn most big cities into war zones if they can over such a dastardly thing to do. Not to mention the teachers unions, high powered corporate lobbyists and other groups who's gravy train is decreased in size when they're demanding increases.

The people you have to worry about violence from are on the left. They are the ones calling cops and the military pigs and baby killers. Most tea partiers call them officer, or sir.

As soon as you can define "non-essential," we'll be ready for debate. Do you honestly believe that a congress split as much as much as ours would ever EVER agree upon which "services" would fall into the non-essential category? Dream on if you don't think Republicans have their own favorite "non-essential" funding they never cut. For example, would they be willing to defund the billions in earmark spending they ran up from 2000 to 2007 for projects that are still ongoing? Hardly.

Damn you liberals are dumb, all he means is it will get a lot uglier here because citizens will have more than rocks. But i guess that's your wet dream, Obama uses his drones to bomb anyone resisting his authority ........... :cuckoo:

Having read many of his posts, I know EXACTLY what he means...

And what the fuck does using drones on the Pakistan Taliban have to do with another American Revolution that some of you pray will happen? Jesus, climb out of your fantasy zone would ya?

Pale Rider's part? Not even quoted in the post. Explain.

I think class/race wars are what Obama is trying to start. Look there first.

As I said, I know exactly what HE (Pale Rider) is talking about. Those like him, Patek, Mr. T., etc.,ARE right-wing lunatics. It's one thing to peacefully protest big government and high taxes; it's quite another to see the hundreds of posts on blogsites containing actual threats of a coup BY THE RIGHT WING FRINGE ELEMENTS against the U.S. Government, which just happens to be run by a Democratic majority. These guys are just itching for a bloody fight on our own lands. Civil War redux.

I don't see any correlation between the rioting in Greece to what could happen here. For one thing, the U.S. government no way in hell is going to simpy CUT OFF, say food stamps and allow its citizens to starve. "Liberals" (I presume you mean those evil welfare recipients) are not going to storm the White House like the poor stormed the Bastile, for God's sake.

I can only hope that's satire.
