The 50s to early 60s was good stuff

People left their doors unlocked in the 50s......................

Petula Clark sang about Downtown in 1965.

Oh, Ginny, you just don't get it.

You know that feel-goodery of the 50's and 60's led this country down the path of over-complacency, and in turn toward it's own downfall?

50s and 60s were great for music, great films, cars, sports and space exploration

Socially and politically they left a lot to be desired

That was a period of hope and growth. The American dream actually seemed attainable back then.

That is the primary difference compared to the USA today.

Great cars

Great baseball: Dodgers, Yankees, Giants.

Great distance running: breaking the 4min mile.

Great surfing!

Not a good era for women and minorities.

The 50s and 60s were a much more decent time. No time period is going to be universally beneficial to everyone. But, by far blacks were better off then they are now. Even with the terrible burdens of discrimination and jim crow laws they were better off. They had strong intact families, they had integrity and honor. With a dubious and artificial sense of equality mandated by affirmative action, they got failing schools, drugs, gang warfare, and a murder rate that would make any African country proud. They got generational welfare and abandonment of fathers to their children. By no stretch of even the most active imagination can anyone say that blacks are better off today then they were in the 50s and 60. In the 50s and 60s a black boy was pretty much assured that he would someday be a man, That's not true today. Our cities have become killing fields of mostly black people killing other black people.

This is progress? Not to any reasonable stretch of delusion.

Yup, blacks continued to get beaten and lynched.

Yup, being jim crow'd and discriminated and lynched was great.

Nope, you go down to the black churches and tell them they are worse off than in the 50s, they will beat your lily white ass, you stupid, ignorant idiot. And St Peter and St Paul going to hold you up while they do it.
