AskQuestions.org - Article: Who Really Pays Taxes in America?

Who has BOTH the means and the motive to hide their taxable income?
Working families? They don't have any money to hide.

Just another reason why the rich should be taxed at the 90% rate that was good enough for them under that pinko commie EISENHOWER!

Do you mean tax loopholes like this millionaire used?

Adjusted gross income $1,728,096
Federal taxes paid $453,770 26.26% of gross income
Donations $245,075 14.18% of his income.

So using donations and other tax loopholes this millionaire reduced his
tax bill from 35% which if NO loopholes used: would have paid another
$151,035 in taxes that are so desperately needed?

Oh did I mention this millionaire gets:
1) Free housing in 132 rooms, 36 bathrooms, 28 fireplaces mansion...
2) free food......3) Free transportation
4) over 1,000 people taking care of the mansion, drivers, pilots..
5) Two 747 jumbo jets that cost $56,518 per hour per plane..
4 C-17 transport

If the rich can "hide" their income at the current tax rates, what makes you think it would be any better with a 90% rate? Would such a rate result in more attempts to hide income or less? Would such a rate encourage more investment in American businesses or less?

If you set logic and reason aside, you've made a great argument.

Now, if we could just get everyone's tax rate up to 100%...what a paradise we'd have. Has that been tried before?

So is there a way to make up the gap? I wonder if there is a way to get them to pay what they lawfully owe. They seem to have ways to hide income that is twenty years ahead of any IRS enforcement effort. I guess we should just get used to the tax burden being increasingly pushed downward.
