That time of year again for the AGW deniers

Hmmm........now which board member on here displays a pronounced level of anger, misery and a continuous hate for new information? Who's angry at the world that thier views are not embraced by the majority? Scan the thread and see if you can figure out who's losing in here.

Ummm........and if you can't tell, you 1) Are probably too naive to be posting in here 2) Should probably be blogging over at People.com.

Ahhhh yes, the ever popular ozone hole. Supposedly "discovered" in the '80's (though theorised in the '70's and actually observed in the 20's!) and then what they find is CFC's might have an effect but the overwhelming cause of the hole is.....wait for it....COLD WEATHER! Holy shit batman, you mean its mainly natural?
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL......oh walleyedretard, you are soooooo crazy. There is absolutely nothing in this NASA article from 2000 that you posted that supports your insane claims. No, dimwit, ozone loss is not "mainly natural" nor is the "overwhelming cause of the hole...COLD WEATHER". That's just some crazy crap that you made up, definitely not anything NASA said. Colder temperatures in the stratosphere (which, BTW, are being caused by global warming, as the models predicted) facilitates the breakdown of CFCs to chlorine which is what destroys the ozone. CFCs are still the primary cause of the ozone layer destruction, very cold temperatures are just required for that conversion from CFC to chlorine compounds. The Antarctic stratospheric temperatures have always been cold enough but that "COLD" never produced an ozone hole on its own. It was only after mankind started manufacturing and releasing large quantities of CFCs that the ozone hole showed up. Now the Arctic strato temps are falling and reaching the low temperatures necessary to turn the CFCs into chlorine so we're now for the first time seeing an ozone hole over the Arctic.

Perhaps you picked up your idiotic misinformation from some spun-up twisted version of this story that you got from some fraudulent denier cult blog. Read the fine print, dumbass, not just the headlines.

Arctic hole has been aggravated by cold winter temperatures
The Daily Mail
20 January 2012
(excerpts)
The first ozone hole above the North Pole has been aggravated by extraordinarily cold winter temperatures, say scientists. Cooling of the ozone layer enhances the effect of ozone-destroying substances such as chlorofluorocarbons - CFC. A repeated ozone hole above the Arctic is to be expected, say scientists from the KIT Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research. About a year ago, the scientists detected that ozone degradation above the Arctic for the first time reached an extent comparable to that of the ozone hole above the South Pole. At a level of around 13 miles above the ground, 80 per cent of the ozone was lost, potentially exposing people on Earth's surface to harmful ultraviolet-B rays from the sun, which can cause sunburn and skin cancer. According to the study, occurrence of the Arctic ozone hole was mainly due to the extraordinarily cold temperatures in the ozone layer that is located at about 18 km height in the stratosphere, i.e. the second layer of the earth's atmosphere. There, chlorine compounds originating from chlorofluorocarbons and other pollutants are converted chemically at temperatures below -78°C. These chemical conversion products attack the ozone layer and destroy it.

Peering into the Ozone Hole
Why are we seeing the worst-ever ozone hole when 13 years of regulation are finally bringing CFC levels under control?

"The first point is that these processes are really slow," said Dr. Richard McPeters, principal investigator for NASA's Total Ozone Mapping Spectrometer (TOMS) at the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC).

"It takes a long time for the CFCs to get up into the stratosphere in the first place, so it's going to take a long time for them to come back out," McPeters said.

CFCs released at the ground diffuse upward through the lowest layer of the atmosphere, called the troposphere. The vertical air currents of tropospheric weather help push CFCs up to the next layer, the stratosphere. Once there, CFCs rise more slowly because stratospheric air has less vertical air movement. In fact, it can take a CFC molecule about 2 years after being released at the ground to make it to the stratosphere where the ozone is. And it can take decades for it to be converted by sunlight into a form that is harmful to ozone, according to Dr. Charles Jackman, an atmospheric modeler at GSFC.

Once a CFC molecule is converted to its destructive form, it can linger in the stratosphere for a few years before it drifts back down into the troposphere in the form of hydrogen chloride (HCl) and is washed out of the atmosphere by rain, Jackman said.

In 1994, NOAA scientists first measured a decrease in the amount of CFCs in the lowest layer of the atmosphere. Since these CFCs would eventually work their way up to the stratosphere -- where the ozone is -- this finding gave hope that CFC concentrations in the stratosphere would also soon begin to decline.

"It'll be a number of years before you start to see real reductions in the CFCs in the stratosphere," McPeters said.

Model calculations suggest that ozone recovery to pre-1980 levels could take 20 to 40 years, he explained. "So it's not something where you'd expect to see a big change this year."

Although the concentration of CFCs in the stratosphere appears to have leveled off, the size of the ozone hole won't necessarily level off with it.

"What's happening right now is you have the CFCs at a very high level, and this gives you a background of low ozone," McPeters explained. "And then from one year to the next, whether you have a particularly deep hole or not sort of depends on the stratospheric 'weather' that you have in the Southern Hemisphere."

This year's record ozone hole occurred largely as a result of the particularly cold winter in Antarctica, McPeters said."

Surely the U.S. will be complicit in the deaths of millions of third world inhabitants if we dont contribute a few hundred billion to the cause...............Before its too late !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Redistributive international socialist bureaucrats can save us !!!

From the vid:
Every September and October (springtime in the Antarctic) a hole forms in the protective ozone layer over the South Pole.

It's always that time of year where those of us that dwell in reality laugh at those who have bought into the latest enviroscare from the enviroNazis.

we're donating millions of tons of carbon into the atmosphere is the conz gift to posterity

I was told in 1976 that the world was gonna end if we didn't do this or that... then again in the eighties... then again in the nineties... then again in the 00's...

They're batting 0.00.

You weren't told that by scientists. We can't help you if you believed your drinking buddies or cult leaders.

The scientists have been right since the 70s, but the denialist cult has been laughably wrong every time. If you denialist cultists say it, odds are very good that the exact opposite is true, no matter what the topic is. You're useful in that way, in the talent you all have for spouting anti-knowledge. That's what happens when your cult orders to disbelieve everything the intelligent people say.

Actually they were. You reeeeeaalllyy need to read some history there bub. You are one of the most ignorant posters on this board.

denialist cultists are not wanted in this thread.

Then why are you here? Yours is the religious cult on this issue. We actually present science...you present ficticious models and expect us to bow down to your alter.

I hate to break it to ya pal but REAL people, and REAL scientists question EVERYTHING.

The fact that your "scientists" question NOTHING serves to place them squarely in the deniers of science category.

most rw's major in business or economics. Thats where your side's Randian cultists come from. Do you deny this too denier? :eusa_whistle:
