Texas Man Arrested After Heroic Rescue

Sounds like a case of power hungry cops who think they need to do everything. There wasn't any rescue attempt underway and it's the duty of citizens to pick up the slack where the police don't quite cut it.

I read this from another source and there is something very strange. Newman...the "rescuer" is also the same guy who:

"In 1999, Texas State University, which owns the dam and the land around it, erected a fence to prohibit access to that part of the river. Later that year, the City Council enacted a swimming ban on that portion of the river. But Newman led a successful campaign to get the fences around the swimming hole removed and the ban relaxed."

I think is is rather odd that the man who campaigned against the fences and swimming ban is the same one who happened to be there to "rescue" the swimmer.

I hate coincidences.
