The Texas Lyceum Poll, conducted in late May and released Thursday, finds that Obama has now passed the Texas Legislature in popularity. Obama’s approval rating has increased from 47 percent to 51 percent since the group’s October poll. Approval ratings for the Legislature slipped 12 points to 49 percent, with 46 disapproving.

Indeed, the overall popularity increase for Obama came at the same time that Texans gave him lower ratings for handling the economy — down from 46 percent in October to 38 percent in May.
