Texas is part of the union. While they are part of the union, they have the same rights as everyone. Expressing a political opinion does not abrogate one's rights and responsibilities of being part of the country.

This is no different than arguing taxes should be raised. The common retort is often "If you want to pay more taxes, donate to the government yourself." But that, like the OP, misses the point. Opinions and debate are about political arrangements. Wanting to change political arrangements is not contradictory to maximizing one's outcome within the political arrangement. Someone wanting taxes raised does not mean one doesn't want to minimize their taxes paid, no matter what the political arrangement. Likewise, arguing that the government should have less of a role does not mean one shouldn't take advantage of government programs as long as the political arrangement is in place.
