Texas demographer: 'It's basically over for White people'

Looking at population projections for Texas, demographer Steve Murdock concludes: "It's basically over for Anglos."

Two of every three Texas children are now non-Anglo and the trend line will become even more pronounced in the future, said Murdock, former U.S. Census Bureau director and now director of the Hobby Center for the Study of Texas at Rice University.

Today's Texas population can be divided into two groups, he said. One is an old and aging Anglo and the other is young and minority. Between 2000 and 2040, the state's public school enrollment will see a 15 percent decline in Anglo children while Hispanic children will make up a 213 percent increase, he said.

Can one of you liberals name ONE successful latin country? Just one! One country that isn't despot run, thug infested, poverty ridden, heck hole of populace ignorance and dictatorship rule.

What latin country has done anything but have internal strife, civil wars, disease and national ignorance.

Relatively speaking, until recently in the short history of the United States, there was a division among white immigrants. Germans, Irish, Russians, Poles and Italians were all seen as separate outsiders who had to "earn" their way into American society. Jews fell in a completely different category because there were German Jews, Russian Jews, Polish Jews and Jews from the various smaller European countries until post World War II when there were Israeli Jews.

Long before the massive immigration of whites from Europe, there were already Latinos (predominantly Mexican), Asians (predominantly Chinese), Blacks (predominantly African) and the many different tribes of Native Americans. They weren't embraced as part of white American society, but they were accepted as already being part of the American culture. In other words, they were brought here (Chinese and Africans) or they were already here (Mexicans and Native Americans). The "outsiders" who were coming to this country were Germans, Irish, Russians, Poles, Italians and Jews.

Now all whites are lumped together even though there was a bitter history of rivalry between them. That's the inconsistency, and that's the flaw in the demographer's statement. His argument is disingenuous at best and specious at worst. If he's going to make an accurate statement, then he should categorize it consistently either by religion (Baptists, Catholics, Protestants, Jews, Muslims, etc.) or by national origin (Mexico, Germany, Russia, Africa, Italy, etc.).

The irony, and historical ignorance, that this so-called expert reveals about himself is that Texas is the original multicultural state. When the Spaniards first came into what is today known as Texas, it was called that because it was a multicultural mix of Native American tribes who referred to themselves as people in their own native tongue and collectively called themselves "Tejas" or "friends."

The definition of the "boundary" of the white race is, to a certain extent, a social, cultural construct.

You'll have a hell of a hard time telling the difference between a lot of Italians, Romanians and even Germans and Swedes and many people from Turkey and Lebanon even though the former are "officially" considered whites while the latter are not due to geographic location and cultural, religious background.

Having said that, there is a limit to the cultural, social definition of whiteness. This guy (half black) and the two girls (half indian) are not considered white people in any part of the world where Caucasians are present to serve as a reference:
