Tesla says Model S can recharge in an hour, given the right equipment (a Supercharger)
Green Car Congress: Tesla Q3 report: $50M revenues, $111M GAAP net loss, 253 Model S delivered in Q3
In White Plains, Tesla Motors Sells the Sizzle and Maybe a Car or Two - NYTimes.com

Tesla Motors reported 520 reservations for the Model S during the first week after the carmaker began accepting deposits online and at showrooms in California on March 26, 2009.The very first Model S was reserved for Tesla investor Steve Jurvetson. Tesla required a US$5,000 deposit for a regular Model S and a US$40,000 deposit for the Signature Series Model S.By mid December 2010, Tesla announced that the reservation count had passed 3,000, 6,500 by November 2011, and 13,200 by September 2012.

Model S first retail deliveries ceremony at the Tesla Factory in Fremont, California, held on June 22, 2012.The special edition Model S Signature model was sold out even before deliveries began in June 2012, and according to Tesla Motors the electric sedan is sold out through 2012. A car ordered in May 2012 would be delivered in early to mid 2013. By August 2012 the carmaker was manufacturing 3 to 4 cars a day and production capacity was ramped up to 200 units a day by early November 2012, and expects to achieve the target rate of 400 cars per week or 20,000 per year by December 2012. Tesla Motors initially expected to sell at least 5,000 units in 2012 and set a sales target of 20,000 units for 2013.

Saleas are strong and production is high! 20K a year would be great!

Tesla has not figured out how to turn a profit yet even if you take out R&D.

Tesla Motors, Inc. (TSLA) Income Statement

True, but many start ups of this magnitude take a few years, esp a revolutionary car that a lot of R & D.

Note: These figures were from last year. It was reported they might turn a profit this year. I am doubtful, because they tossed a bunch of dollars into R&D on their newest model. However, we can wait and see, only a few weeks away.

Tesla Quarterly Income Statement is not really much better. They recently cut R&D but their losses have only improved a little. I like Elon Musk, but it seems he has not yet found the secret sauce in Tesla.

Ethanol, Methanol, bio-butanol & bio-diesel are the best suited alternative transportation fuels. Have good energy density. They work with current infrastructure & automobiles.

Batteries are to slow to recharge, expensive as hell, heavy as hell & have low energy density & range.

If increasing the capacity of batteries, and decreasing the costs only related to EV's, perhaps you doubting Thomas's would have a point. But there are so many other places that this will be a significant advance. It will happen. The physics state that we have vast room to improve the power density of the batteries, and I have no doubt that we will.

We have cheap high power density molten Liquid Metal Battery batteries. The thing is they must be kept very hot in molten state to function. They work in insulated fixed position power grid settings, but may be to impractical & dangerous for autos. They take lots of power to get to the molten state where they function. You would have to plug it in to heat up before you could drive.

ethanol is terrible, so is methanol, and bio diesel is cool.

You are clueless & brainwashed by propaganda.

I also forgot to mention Bio-Butanol.

At $84,900 everyone should buy one.

What did the first cell phone in a bag cost? $5 a min! Not for your average consumer. The first gas cars weren't priced for the average consumer either. Not to mention the first computers.

Ground break tech many times is expensive to make and earlier adapters pay the high ticket price. Eventually when they stabilize the R&D, perfect the production and standardize production, costs go down and the product becomes affordable!

He disagrees, He's brainwashed and clueless!! Get bent.
Ethanol is still terrible.
Methanol is only good as a racing fuel.
Bio diesel is still fucking cool.
