The United States is made up of every race, nationality, culture and religion on the face of this earth.

And as Americans we publicly disagree, argue and debate with each other on a lot of issues, and that’s the way it should be in a democracy, it’s part of what makes this country so great.

Despite all of our differences on a very wide range of domestic and foreign issues, the one thing that we can all agree on is that our system is broken.

The congress no longer works as it was intended to, our congressmen and our two political parties are in a battle over power for the most control, and I don’t see that battle ever ending, no matter who happens to be winning in any given year. The actual health, and I think the very survival of this country is not the priority to our congressmen, selfish power and greed is our elected officials priority.

This country is circling the drain and we get nothing but locked horns and more greed from them. Even when our very financial survival is in question, something that should be a simple bill to discuss, ends up being hundreds of pages long, that means your congressman have added what amounts to millions of your hard earned tax dollars on their pet projects for casting a vote one way or another.

It’s a sickening spectacle to watch as millions of tax paying citizens suffer from years and years of greed and incompetence.

Did you know that the new congressman that you elected to try and change the mess we have in Washington are essentially little more than trainees, the junior congressman has very little power, and is not equal to the established members of congress. The junior congressman has to vote as he’s told to vote or the money dries up for his reelection campaign, then he’s out of a job come next election. Your new congressman is not even allowed to speak until all the senior members have spoken first, heaven forbid he should represent the people and disagree with a senior member, or even with his own party for that matter.

Is that the kind of congressional change you voted for last election? Congressional term limits would cut that power structure and allow the people you elect to represent you, not to serve for the survival of some 30 year veteran congressman who has manipulated and blackmailed his way to the top, and wants to stay there until they have to wheel him out.

90% of our problems today stem from greed, graft and corruption from deep pocket special interests and the lobbyist’s that buy and own our congressional lawmakers.

Congress passes legislation on behalf of it’s biggest donors that limits competition in their industry’s. That corrupts our free enterprise system that the rest of our business people have to live by. We saw the results of that corruption and greed in 2008.

Our congress also reversed laws on the behalf of lobbyist’s that regulated the stock market, and the financial institutions. These laws were put in place after the crash of 1929 and the great depression years of bread lines and suffering that followed. Those laws that congress reversed, were put in place to make sure it never happened again. Again we see the results of that corruption and greed bringing this country to it’s knees in 2008.

The safety and security of this nation would never have been sold to the highest bidder like that if a congressman was actually representing his constituents.

A congressman’s duty and responsibility is to represent and give a voice to the voters that put them in office, and to also protect the safety and well being of this country. Instead, todays congressman is loyal to who ever can pay them the most so they can stay in office for a 6th or 7th term and do even more damage to this country. Congressional term limits would stop this cycle of greed and mismanagement our country has somehow survived with for so long. Imagine where we would be now if we had lawmakers that actually put the countries interests first, instead of members lining their own pockets with your tax dollars.

We the people need to change this broken system if we are going to survive.

Power corrupts, and the office of United States congressman with no term limits attracts the worst type of personality for the job. You can see the ego and arrogance of that personality when they get caught with their pants down doing something stupid, their stupidity and clouded judgment comes from having so much power and influence for so long a time that they actually believe that they are invincible and can do anything they want with no fear of the consequences. History shows us royalty and dictators acting that very same way.

I shutter to think of what financial losses and poor judgment based on greed and vanity our lawmakers have burdened the tax paying citizens of this country with over the years. The debt this country faces today is nothing compared the the number of dollars our congressman have squandered, flushed, and lined their pockets with over the years.

We need people that will put the nations best interests in mind first, before their own self interests, and that’s exactly what would happen with term limits for every elected office in this country. The hundreds of lawyers we have in congress now that have brought us to the nightmare situation we are in today, would move on to something more lucrative, and we would get people that actually want to improve things, and listen to the people that voted for them. There are millions of qualified people that would love to serve this country if given the chance. We all know people that can do a better job than the lawyers we have in there now.

We the people can change this mess with congressional term limits.

If our founding father’s had added term limits to all elected offices when the constitution was written, this country, and probably the whole world would not be in the crisis it’s in today. The congressman would be responsible to the voter, not to the lobbyist or that 30 year veteran of the system that we can’t seem to get rid of. That system is obese, and feeds on this country and it’s people until it snowballs into the mass of tangled webs we have today.

A reflection to our congress and our federal government that everyone knows well is our tax system. Here is something that should be a simple process to implement and operate, but instead our elected officials have turned it into this massive behemoth that costs the tax payers billions to operate, and you need a degree in accounting to understand it.

Rules and regulations are added to the tax code every year, but very few, if any at all are ever removed. The congress treats the federal government the same way, adding committees for 20 year studies, and adding an assistant to the assistant’s assistant. But when it comes to cutting the budget, they look to our elderly that are living on social security to turn off their heat, and cut back to one meal a day.

There was a push a decade ago for congressional term limits, and at that time the professional politician’s argument against it was that the “common man” could not do the job, and the country would suffer from it, well look where we are now. What would the professional politicians argument be now???

Anyone that can hold a job, feed, cloth, and keep a roof over their family’s head in these hard economic times is more than qualified to do a congressman’s job, it’s not a complicated job, it’s made complicated by the people we have in there now. A congressman’s job is just a matter of personal integrity, knowing right from wrong, and educating yourself on the facts of the issue, “is it good for the country and it’s people”, “or is it bad for the country and it’s people”.

Frankly I think a well organized, well informed group of 5th graders would do a better job than the hundreds of lawyers we have in there now. The 5th graders decisions would certainly be based on doing the right thing for this country and it’s people, rather than the greed and struggle for power we are getting now.

No matter what your political or spiritual views are, or what race or cultural background you come from, we are all Americans, and we all share the same ball and chain around our neck that is sinking this beautiful country and all it’s people right along with it. Let’s all get on the same page on this one issue and try and save this country.

The people of this country have the power to change this mess, and it starts with you.

Is your group or associations leaders talking about term limits? Let’s put this issue out in front and make it a top priority.

This is the information age. Speak out, email, instant message, use social media. Or use the traditional, but still effective, method of writing or calling your congressman.

Term Limits! Term Limits! Term Limits!

I'd support a limit on the number of consecutive terms someone can serve, but I think outright term limits are stupid. Even for President - it ought just be a two term limit on consecutive terms.

Sure they will. Why would politicians give a damn about "K" Street if they can't be reelected?

What enables incumbents to keep getting re-elected over and over?
It's their ability to channel political pork to their constituents via special interest legislation, as known as "earmarks". A special Congressional commission is meeting with the intent of trimming TRILLIONS of dollars from government expenditures. These incumbents are going to look of less value to their constituents to keep in office when their constituents start to feel the results of mandated decreases in Federal expenditures in their districts. I for one don't believe that decreases in Federal expenditures will quickly lead to the creation of more jobs in the private sector that will compensate for decreasing Federal budget expenditures. So I think you will see a backlash in the form of rejection of incumbents, even those with an affiliation to the "Tea-Party" movement.

Calls for term limits tend to reflect one of (or both of) the following assertions: 1) the electoral process is broken, or 2) the electorate is broken.

Term limits are a pretty ham-handed way of addressing those problems.

Ok get a clue. In order to establish Term limits on Congress would require an amendment to the Constitution. Guess who decides if we ever see an amendment? That's right Congress.

We the people already have term limits, we have to vote them in every election. If you are to damn stupid to stop electing people like Maxine Waters into office, you deserve the Representation you have

Despite all of our differences on a very wide range of domestic and foreign issues, the one thing that we can all agree on is that our system is broken.

It is not broken, the problem is user error.

We have term limits, every two years we have a election.

True.

That they’re not used correctly by the voters doesn’t justify changing the system.

Why should you be able to tell me who I should be able to vote for to represent me?

If I want the same representative for 20 years, I should be able to vote for him. If you don't like how he represents you, then don't vote for him

That is the American way

both assertions are obviously true. Democracy is a self limiting disease, anyway. It's doomed to implode.

A "ham-handed" way is better than no way at all, and term limit opponents have never offered any credible alternative.

I don't deserve to have Maxine Waters making decisions for me. I never had an chance to vote for her. How do I get rid of her?

The lawyers and career politicians will not likely allow any legislation that causes them to lose control over the purse strings and laws that are used to control the public lifestyle.

Whether we like it or not, the fox is guarding the hen house.
