Tennessee Bigots Attempting to Ban the Building of a Mosque Lose Again

There are a ton of legitimate concerns regarding the building of a place of worship in a community including zoning and envirnmental and local ordinances. Calling local people of Al Gore's state "bigots" is typical of bigoted lefties.

When your argument to ban the building of a Mosque is that Islam isn't a religion you're a mother fucking bigot, dude.
Islam is a religion, the religion of satan.

See post #18 then sit down and shut the fuck up, toots.

There's nothing in that link that supports what you said.

So you're a lying pro-terrorist. How original. Fuck off yourself.

Corlew's latest ruling reiterated that Islam is a religion.

"Though the evidence has shown that there are groups which advocate violence and advocate laws at variance with the laws of our nation, there is no showing that the local church, as a whole, supports any such beliefs," Corlew wrote. "The evidence further shows that those extremists views are separate from the religion of Islam.

"The plaintiffs have established that there may be extremist members within the group of worshipers even here in Rutherford County, but that does not change the fact that Islam exists as a religion apart from the extremist philosophies."

Brandon disagreed with Corlew's position on Islam.

"Chancellor Corlew seems to go on and on that it's been decided that Islam is a religion, and we take issue with that," Brandon said. "There's no proof in this case that Islam is a religion. There is no case law or code that Islam is a religion.

"We would agree that there are religious aspects of Islam, but there are also legal, political and cultural aspects of Islam that can hardly be defined as religious. Further, the legal, political and cultural aspects make up the majority of the doctrine known as Islam."
Brandon also contends that Corlew didn't deal with the Tennessee Declaratory Judgment Act that grants citizens the right to ask through the courts that statutes or zoning ordinances be declared void as a result of being unconstitutional.

Please continue to deny reality. It's hilarious.

Well it helps when you provide a link that actually has the correct information.

You always get a good idea of who respects the Constitution and who doesn't with threads like this.

Throughout history there's been a group that thinks their bigotry should trump the Constitution, and that'll continue.

It's examples like this that highlight the true purpose for the 1st Amendment. Defending powerfully against that whole tyranny of the majority thing.

If a Christian church sells merchandise they are leaving the confines of religion and are engaged in business. If they give away merchandise in exchange for a minimum “love” offering, they are selling that merchandise. That aspect of their church (the money they make from selling merchandise) is not “religion” and should be taxed.

Would you consider this opinion to be bigotry against Christians, and why or why not?

If the folks in Tennessee want to stop the construction of mosques, they only have to have a special statewide vote. The question would be a simple one for the citizens of that state:
"Do you want to secede from the United States. If the majority come back with a yes. Then they can inform the federal government that they are no longer going to be a part of the union and set up their own Constitution, Monarchy, or whatever.
The Obama administration has already said that it is wrong for governments to use military force against a people that want to change the government. Therefore, no troops would be sent to Tennessee. The newly formed Republic of Tennessee would simply have to put religious restrictions into place in their new Constitution, eliminating violent religious materials and teachings. Of course then there's the pesky issue of having to make your own currency, set up border checkpoints, end relying on any federal subsidies, et cetera.

We're still waiting for Texas to do that.

Churches are not taxed for a very very good reason. Taxation brings with it the right to representation by government. By taxing churches it gives them a level of control in the government and entanglement with the process of government which would run up with problems with the 1st Amendment. It works both ways. The power to tax is the power to regulate. We don't want government regulating churches. Churches should not be in the process of regulating government policies.

What if a Church engages in political activity? The IRS can and has gone after Churches which are decided to be too political. Is this a bigoted attack against Christianity?

Keep in mind people are merely making the accusation that Islam is sufficiently political in nature that it should not be classified as a religion. How does this mere accusation constitute bigotry? Perhaps Islam is too political to be called a religion, perhaps it’s not…that question is a different matter. The OP is claiming that the mere charge of being too political cannot even be leveled against Islam…whether or not it’s true. To merely claim that Islam is too political is bigotry. Why?

With Christianity we can not only ask the question about a church being too political, we can decide that a church is too political and is not a religious institution. But with Islam we can’t even ask the question?

As far as the constitution, I don't believe the constitution gave us a clear definition of religion. If a religious organization engages in business or politics, their status as a religion can be questioned. Islam is heavily political. The problem with saying that Islam is not a religion is not constitutional, and the Quran is very heavily political and gives great ammunition to the charge that Islam is political more than religious. The problem with the accusation that Islam is not a religion is that the anti-Islamists can lose the support of Christian groups who don’t want to lose their own tax-exempt status.
