I was amused yesterday to learn that Teddy Roosevelt was an early champion of universal health care and in fact originally ran for office with it as part of his platform.

It was beaten back, of course, by those that claimed it would make us like the Prussians or the Germans.

The Prussians ARE 'The Germans.'

You learned this yesterday?
Yikes ,Keep some thing private.

I learned yesterday that Washington, DC was named after George Washington, the President.

I always thought that George Washington had changed his last name to match the capital's name when he became President.

I was surprised to learn that George Washington did not actually build the George Washington bridge.

Go figure

And what are the odds against Henry Hudson boating up a river with his EXACT last name?

Seems both President Obama and you haven't a sense of what Teddy Roosevelt was about regarding the American adaptation of the Bismarck plan? Then again, seems Obama plans on rewriting a lot of history, Wright legacy indeed.

I know. Should have put that in parenthesis.

Always shooting the messenger.

?

You do know that Teddy is considered the prototype neocon, don't you?

Much has been given us, and much will rightfully be expected from us. We have duties to others and duties to ourselves; and we can shirk neither. We have become a great nation, forced by the fact of its greatness into relations with the other nations of the earth, and we must behave as beseems a people with such responsibilities

Good point. The horror!

"To destroy this invisible Government, to dissolve the unholy alliance between corrupt business and corrupt politics is the first task of the statesmanship of the day." - 1912 Progressive Party Platform, attributed to Theodore Roosevelt[1] and quoted again in his autobiography[2] where he connects Trusts and monopolies (sugar interests, Standard Oil, etc.) to Woodrow Wilson and William Howard Taft, and consequently both major political parties.
TR was in most ways, my kind of Republican.

Sadly, he ceased being the Republican Party's kind of Republican.

Hence the BULL MOOSE Party (AKA the "Progressive Party)
