Technology: The enemy of Republican Economic Policy

Linking to a right wing opinion piece? They supposedly quote some Obama saying taken out of context? Again? They might as well be saying "You didn't build that".

The truth is that right wingers are "digging in" instead of preparing for the future. They are becoming the very people they hate so intensely. Those that can't survive without government help. In fact, most are already there. "Keep Government Hands off my Medicare".
Obama said what he said, derp. Your frantic insistence that he didn't is foolish, but perfectly in character.

Right wingers are masters of taking things out of context. To bad they aren't masters of, say, "science" or "technology" or "education" or "fiscal policy". Since 2000, they seem to be masters of "fail". So they are good at one thing. But it's not something anyone wants to be good at.

No need to be rude just because someone is asked to back up their assertion. I'm not making the claim, Rdean is therefore the onus is on him to substantiate it?

Who are you, his lackey?
Your question was rude. Did it have a point?? In case you did not know, there is support for stem graduates on both sides of the aisle. From the pres to the Repub congressional leaders. So, not sure what your point is.

Tell that to Rdean. He seems to think the Republican plan is to make us less competitive. I want specifics on what cuts to education he's talking about that have resulted in fewer STEM graduates.

Give me a break. Not only have there been endless quotes from Republicans inferring they want to cut education and education is for snobs and they want to even cut school lunches, this was even one of the main themes of the last election. The reason they want to cut education is to balance out their tax cuts for the very wealthy.

Considering what Republicans think about science and technology, considering they rewrite text books and want to teach "magical creation" along side "science" and stop teaching critical thinking skills and considering all the times their positions have been posted on this very site, to suddenly say "not true" is laughable. It's like saying "Obama should go into Libya" and then once he does, saying "Obama shouldn't go into Libya". Or Republicans hating a health care plan that came from the Republicans.

Right wingers may think they are "Master Debaters", but they can't have every side on everything. It makes them look like they have no values.

Dems & Technology:

1. They killed the Superconducting Supercolloider

2. They were against Reagan's Successful Space Based Defense System

3. They Killed the manned space Program

4. They believe that Global Warming is causing Manmade Climate Change Disruption

5. They believe the bank ATM and airport kiosks hurt the economy; the only technology they trust is the hammer and sickle.

They deny facts all day long.

they are worthless to this country until they accept facts as facts

You lie yet again.

Obama blamed technology for the loss of jobs. This is undeniable.

Your lies about Republicans may convince you, but that's only because you're stupid and gullible.

So you've got nothing then.

Just as I thought.

Useless Obama-ATM quote is useless.

Partisanship has nothing to do with the time-tested fact that technology makes some jobs obsolete and creates other, new ones. Both Democrats and Republicans should freely acknowledge that (and they do).

By the way, what cuts to education?

Obama's ATM quote now has to be passed through the context filter

LOLz

Obama Fluffers....can't understand a word they say

1. Huh?

2. Successful? Bullshit.

3. Liar.

4. Certainly the climate is being affected by hundreds of thousands of tons we pump into the atmosphere every single day. It's only common sense.

5. Huh?

You can't make up your own reality. I mean you can. Your mind is delusional. But facts are facts and eventually, you could end up in a padded room.

Obama also said he wants every American to be able to have an education so we can compete in fields that create technology. Someone has to maintain those machines. Someone has to program them. Someone has to assembly them. Someone has to build the infrastructure that would house them.

Right after that, Republicans called him a snob, vowed to cut the number of teachers and said they would never support rebuilding America. That money needs to go to the "job creators" who we now know will only build robots.

I don't see how you can defend your piss poor decision. Not after being so severely spanked.

Do I have to post all those videos again? All those conservative links? Why would you watch them now if you didn't the first two dozen times? Your mind is closed.

Five years after the start of the Great Recession, the toll is terrifyingly clear: Millions of middle-class jobs have been lost in developed countries the world over.

And the situation is even worse than it appears.

Most of the jobs will never return, and millions more are likely to vanish as well, say experts who study the labor market. What's more, these jobs aren't just being lost to China and other developing countries, and they aren't just factory work. Increasingly, jobs are disappearing in the service sector, home to two-thirds of all workers.

They're being obliterated by technology.

Experts warn that this "hollowing out" of the middle-class workforce is far from over. They predict the loss of millions more jobs as technology becomes even more sophisticated and reaches deeper into our lives.

Foxconn Technology Group, which assembles iPhones at factories in China, unveiled plans in 2011 to install one million robots over three years.

A recent headline in the China Daily newspaper: "Chinese robot wars set to erupt."

Occupations that provided middle-class lifestyles for generations can disappear in a few years. Utility meter readers are just one example. As power companies began installing so-called smart readers outside homes, the number of meter readers in the U.S. plunged from 56,000 in 2001 to 36,000 in 2010, according to the Labor Department.

In 10 years? That number is expected to be zero.

Clearly, these facts fly in the face of Republican Economic policy. More and more cuts to education ensure future Americans won't be able to compete. Refusing to invest in infastructure will have an even more develstating effect.

Robots need to be installed. They need maintenence and programming. The Republican efforts to redistribute the wealth of the nation to the top 1% doesn't ensure the "job creators" will create jobs. Instead, they will build robots.

All that wasted effort to get the wealth of the nation to the top 1% and clearly, ignorant and uneducated Republicans will never be hired. They merely sow the seeds of their own destruction.

For America to compete, you simply do the opposite of what Republicans imagine will work.

Republicans responsible for the alleged lack of factory robotics? Who's opinion is that, Saul Alinsky? You must be aware that robotics would displace humans in factories and unions have resisted robotics for decades.

No point at all. Just a con who has obviously never been in an actual manufacturing plant that is unionized in his life. And really, really wanted to use the name of Saul Alinsky. Just the kind of stupidity that has hurt repubs badly, and may kill them in the future. What was it Jindal said.....

I did think that was awfully strange when "Saul Alinsky" came out of no where with not a bit of context.

rdean if you want a legitimate complaint about the GOP look at the tax changes being proposed in KS and NC.

By shifting to regressive taxation on the state level robotic factories are encouraged to come in and recipients of assistance are being encouraged to move to blue states. Given the precarious finances of blue states the blue base may go bye-bye rather quickly.

Just trying to be helpful.

I completely agree, but policy needs to include current low skill workers as well. Without some government aid in the form of training, there's little we can do to keep them from being pushed out of the job market.
