A teach at a middle school in Oklahoma is failing students who act morally and rationally, by not the Pledge of Allegiance in Spanish, which the teacher tried to force them to do against their will (and the will of their parents). This is America, English is the language we use and is the only official language in most states. To say the Pledge in Spanish would be the equivalent of the singing God Bless America at an American baseball in the German language during World War II. This is disturbing on so many levels. We cannot allow the Mexicans to defile American culture, we should not accommodate the illegal immigrants (the legal ones are okay though). You should learn the country's language before you come to that country, not learn it when you get there or not learn it at all. All official American documents are in English and pretty much English only. What next? Are they going to write the Constitution in Chinese? This is ridiculous. If anything the Mexicans should learn the Pledge of Allegiance in English. Even if it was a Spanish class, it would still not be acceptable, this is heresy and un-American.

While I am not thrilled with this story, and since the OP is lacking a link to a source it is already suspect, I am more bothered about the rote recitation of the Pledge by children more than their learning it in another language. I am of the opinion that, prior to saying the pledge, there should be a lesson on it's history and it's meaning. When they're finished with that, they may be ready to recite the Pledge.

Oh, and let's take it back to the pre "Under GOD" version. The cold war is over, not every family is hip with the GOD thing. At the very least, make that version available to those who prefer it.

But that's just my opinion...

Sounds like it was a Spanish class.

Seems kind of stupid to object to speaking in spanish in a spanish class.

English:

CHORUS

Mexicans, at the cry of battle
lend your swords and bridle;
and let the earth tremble at its center
upon the roar of the cannon.

Your forehead shall be girded, oh fatherland, with olive garlands
by the divine archangel of peace,
For in heaven your eternal destiny
has been written by the hand of God.
But should a foreign enemy
Profane your land with his sole,
Think, beloved fatherland, that heaven
gave you a soldier in each son.

CHORUS

II

War, war without truce against who would attempt
to blemish the honor of the fatherland!
War, war! The patriotic banners
saturate in waves of blood.
War, war! On the mount, in the vale
The terrifying cannon thunder
and the echoes nobly resound
to the cries of union! liberty!

CHORUS

III

Fatherland, before your children become unarmed
Beneath the yoke their necks in sway,
May your countryside be watered with blood,
On blood their feet trample.
And may your temples, palaces and towers
crumble in horrid crash,
and their ruins exist saying:
The fatherland was made of one thousand heroes here.

CHORUS

IV

Fatherland, fatherland, your children swear
to exhale their breath in your cause,
If the bugle in its belligerent tone
should call upon them to struggle with bravery.
For you the olive garlands!
For them a memory of glory!
For you a laurel of victory!
For them a tomb of honor!

Some people should learn English first

If it were a cultural exercise in an academic discipline, such as Spanish class, guess what, Solace, no harm no foul.

Exactly!
And what is the problem of learning it in spanish? Plus at least they are saying it. We said it every day in grade school, we hardly ever said it in high school.

I have a relative who teaches ESL and citizenship, getting ready for the naturalization exam. She has the class pledge in Spanish and then in English. The newbs in class find it a wonderful exercise.

Anybody who wants to improve their English, should take a semester or two of grammar and composition in another language.

I have learned more spanish from Dora, than I ever did in high school.
What is the right going to do when the 10 and under generation grow up accepting spanish and latinos?

Exactly!

They should also take a extensive US History class, and American government.

see this the problem. Most countries in the world have at least 2 official languages some even have more. Wy should we only have one language. Canada has 2 official languages(english and french). And if someone loves this country and is not able to express it in their language whats wrong with them saying the plege in spanish or in french or in whatever language.

America is multi cultral society which is one of the reasons i love this nation.

Instead of rejecting spanish we should be embracing it and other languages.

But Canada's official languages are official to prevent what is happening in the US. Whole towns being swallowed up in the Spanish language by the invading Latin Americans. Force the Mexicans to learn French!

Whole towns that used to be spanish colonies. And what about us wiping out native american language?
If Napoleon had been more successful, the people in the west would be speaking spanish.

The whole town I am speaking of is 1400 miles away from Mexico just outside of Chicago. When was Chicago a Spanish colony? What are Mexicans doing HERE? There are no crops to pick on State Street?
