Kentucky GOP Senate nominee Rand Paul is squirming under the bright lights of national media attention since he toppled Mitch McConnell's handpicked candidate Trey Grayson Tuesday night. On Wednesday, an interview he gave to the Louisville Courier-Journal, in which he seemed to say he would have opposed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, hit the Internet and cable television. Wednesday night MSNBC's Rachel Maddow interviewed him and tried to get him to clarify his remarks, and Paul tried to talk his way out of siding with the terrible folks who wouldn't let black students sit at those Southern lunch counters in 1960.

But Paul basically sided with the terrible folks. The Tea Party hero said he thought the Civil Rights Act was fine when it came to desegregating public institutions, but not private businesses. He called the issue of desegregating lunch counters "obscure," and implied the First Amendment gave business owners the right to be racist.

I know....I know...you will say this does not mean that all Tea Baggers are racist....but come on people?

By this time next year the tea baggers will be saying that Rand Paul is not a real conservative.

that is if he wins in the fall.
If he loses in the fall he will always be held up as a perfect conservative.

He'll make a great Senator, we could use a whole bunch more just like him. Liberals can attempt to marginalize him all day, but Americans aren't as stupid as you think. Anyone who watched that interview can see that he is arguing about the PRINCIPLE of limited government and that he is in no way racist.

Rand Paul is going to destroy his opponent in the general election, and conservatives all across the country are going to get elected in droves. Why? Because of their conservative PRINCIPLES - Limited government and fiscal responsibility. These PRINCIPLES are a tidal wave that is going to wash away the Democrat majorities in November.

Say goodbye to Pelosi's speakership, say goodbye to Harry Reid permanently, and say goodbye to the leftist agenda of the Unicorn Rainbow King.

If you are going to criticize a man for what he says you should at least listen to what he says. Since so few people who criticize things around here actually read what they are criticizing I doubt this is actually going to make a difference.

actually, mister Paul is as uninformed as you claim his critics are. He skips over access and reasonable accommodations vs penalties.

take...handicapped employees. The issue with a two story office is the second floor is inaccessible to the employee who needs assistance. Giving an employee a first floor office might be okay, if the company is only on the first floor. Employees who need special assistance can be reasonably accommodated in ways that don't make headlines. Picking on the ADA is silly and disingenuous.

Pail skips over the fact that he is in favor of getting rid of racism ---in principle-- but would do little if he 'thinks' it is not covered by the Constitution. What has he skipped over? He doesn't get to decide what is Constitutional, but he does get to decide what he woudl support. With friends like him, blacks in the civil rights era would need no enemies.

Paul is asked about businesses discriminating with regards to customers and he answers in regards employees. He dodges and goes on about institutional racism

Everything he said was reasonable, thoughtful and practical providing for personal freedom while still protecting the rights of the handicapped and minorities, or as liberals put it, bigoted and intolerant.

his views are impractical and he is disingenuous

he dodges the very first question he is asked -- about saying businesses should be able to discriminate -- right to refuse service to anyone...saying the ADA is an overreach by the federal government.

hmmm, I wonder why he thinks the federal government stepped in? Oh yeah, they were asked to

See, that wasn't so hard. Criticize him for what he actually said instead of what someone else says he said. It might take a little longer, but you end up looking a lot more intelligent.
