Actually Maryland is proof it does work.
if there is a disparity between the lowest (free loader) and the wealthiest in a state with an average income of around 70k, and you tax the wealthy to the point that they leave, then it actually lowers the average income and helps to close that gap. It makes everyone left closer to equal.
You can keep doing this until everyone left makes the same. Nothing.
