In 1988 a 15yo black girl claimed to have been raped by police officers. Race-baiter Al Sharpton smelled the money and raced to the family's side. Sharpton fanned the flames, called the police vile names, and even claimed to have evidence to prove the girl's story...right before she admitted she had made the whole thing up to cover for the fact she and her boyfriend had engaged in sex. As the story broke Sharpton fled town like a scalded dog, fearing the police would charge him with making false claims...but they dropped the whole thing to let things calm down and the community heal.
