The failure to mandate a logic class that should begin in high school is why Americans are irrational.

The mind is an organ. All organs need to be exercised properly or they won't develop.

There is a scientific propaganda system used by the media to brainwash American citizens. Brainwashed citizens become emotional, insulted, and irate at the mere mention of being brainwashed.

Here's an example. Would you put your money in a bank that takes your money to a casino or a horse track to bet with? Instead of shooting craps the bankers are betting with derivatives instead of using derivatives to hedge risk. When the banks lose they get bailed out with your own money (its called taxes).

Since the mortgage meltdown failed to wake up Americans, nothing will.

High school is too late.

Why not have kids reading stories in grade school with characters exhibiting rational behavior and thought then they will have a context to put the ideas into.Some SF from the 50s and 60s presented the ideas of General Semantics. Part of our problem is irrational language.

I concur. We need children to be able to see and predict logical consequences of behaviour. and to understand the logical way to understand problems and refute fallacies. not every child will get it but there would be great benefit for all if we knew there was a structured way to understand the world and separate propaganda from reality.
