The NSW Fire Brigade Employees' Union has vowed to take on the state government if a recommended shake-up to triple zero call centres goes ahead.

Former AFP Commissioner Mick Keelty has recommended that one integrated Triple Zero call centre for fire services be established, in the wake of the devastating Tathra bushfires.

It would be similar to the model run by NSW Ambulance, operated by bureaucrats and not firefighters.
