Take Money Out Of Television

Quiz

Well, it's not like we're going to be magically transported to the era of Jack Benny and Jackie Gleason, but there's some TV/media out there worth-a-look:

1. Modern Family (ABC)
2. CNN Election Coverage (arguably the best)
3. Apple.com (consumerism-honest resource)
4. Tomorrowland (film starring George Clooney)

But hey we all miss Gloria DeHaven and Dick Cavett...

TL;DR

The title says enough. You could have stopped there instead of burying the point under three tons of verbage. "Money" is what television is made of and made for. Inasmuch as it's the most powerful propaganda device ever devised, and that the nature of that propaganda is advertising, it's always going to be dedicated to proliferating, prolonging and preserving exactly that status quo. There's nothing in the world "liberal" or "conservative" about it in political terms, because nobody makes money on piecemeal ideology. They make money on persuading viewers to buy stuff they don't need, which is the definition of advertising.

That's it, that's all it ever was and all it ever will be.

And to that end they will perpetuate the system as it is, and oppose any challenge to it, which in the broader picture, means "conservative". That's its nature.

You guys who still waddle around bellowing "liberal media" are living in a tinfoil world of paranoia, endlessly bleating mantras that have no basis in an attempt to find your own echo chamber. Y'all think you see a tree and are completely oblivious to the forest it stands in.
You've been spouting your "they make money on persuading viewers to buy stuff they don't need, which is the definition of advertising" bullshit in here for a long time, so it's apparent you never tire of your own stupidity.

In your world of idiocy people never need a new car, they're just persuaded to invest tens of thousands of dollars because they're fools like you. They're persuaded to replace their car's bald tires but without advertising they'd be perfectly happy to ride around on them forever. People never need car, home, life, etc. insurance, rather they purchase it because of TV ads. No one ever needs to paint their house or replace their old leaky inefficient windows, they just get persuaded to do so.

I could go on and forever about various goods or services folks need all the time just like the ones cited above but won't waste my time because to those of us with brains they're obvious everyday needs, not things we're tricked into purchasing because we're dupes to anything and eveything advertised on television.

To Pogo: Your bullshit overlooks a universal truth: Caveat emptor is an ancient warning against your liars.

Throughout history salesmen selling a product were known-liars, but nobody was forced to buy the product. Politicians selling an ideology like Socialism moved caveat emptor into the realm of selling to everybody where individuals cannot refuse to buy. Because of the government’s control over television’s power of persuasion caveat emptor became obsolete. Tens of millions of television addicts believe the lies told in product advertising; so what are the odds they are smart enough to see through the government’s lies when expert propagandists sell a political agenda?

Caveat emptor not only made the buyer entirely responsible for assessing the quality of a purchase before buying —— caveat emptor also purifies lies. “It ain’t a lie when you’re selling something” has been the rule since “Let the buyer beware.” became the moral standard in commerce thousands of years ago. Thanks to television “advertising” Socialism/Communism transformed the standard into “The tax collector’s morality.”

And in case you missed it, the government NEVER intervenes on behalf of the buyer. Indeed, government/television “advertising” a totalitarian ideology in bits and pieces crossed into the danger zone not long after WWII ended, yet no one is fighting to stop the government from using advertising tax deduction dollars to advance a political agenda most Americans abhor. No religion except Socialism could get away with the same thing. Ask yourself this: How many Americans would stand still for it if Muslims, or Jews, or Roman Catholics, used television’s advertising tax dollars to do the same thing Democrats are doing in order to move the country closer to totalitarian government? In short: Caveat emptor is meaningless when the buyer is forced to buy.

The reason we keep reading and hearing about the lies pouring forth from the administration and the Democrat party these days all lead back to its leader, Barack Obama. Considering that everyone except the most dense Americans know that he is famous for lying repeatedly to secure public support for the Affordable Care Act. “If you like your plan, you can keep your plan” moved the country to a point in history in which contemptible behavior by the president is being replicated by Democrat party politicians seeking to be elected or reelected.

It is not a matter of speculation that Obama might be lying even though members of the nation’s press almost never use the words “liar, lie, or lying, to describe him. Instead we hear and read synonyms like “falsehood” and “untruths” and “legacy.” The fact is that he can only be described as a liar. The rest of them are no better.

Gruber might have a case for the stupidity of American voters if it was only a matter of caveat emptor. In fact, “Let the buyer beware” does not apply when the American people were forced to purchase healthcare insurance. In the end American voters en masse are rejecting the ACA; so they might not be as stupid as Gruber, Obama, Pelosi, and Reid, made them out to be.

Finally, this classic from Steny Hoyer speaks for every Democrat member of Congress. He bypasses advertising lies altogether and goes right to the heart of government force:

House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D-Md.) said that the individual health insurance mandates included in every health reform bill, which require Americans to have insurance, were “like paying taxes.” He added that Congress has “broad authority” to force Americans to purchase other things as well, so long as it was trying to promote “the general welfare.”

The Congressional Budget Office, however, has stated in the past that a mandate forcing Americans to buy health insurance would be an “unprecedented form of federal action,” and that the “government has never required people to buy any good or service as a condition of lawful residence in the United States.”

Hoyer Says Constitution’s ‘General Welfare’ Clause Empowers Congress to Order Americans to Buy Health Insurance

You just demonstrated my point. Several times.

If your tires are bald THEY tell you you need new tires. You don't need an ad to tell you that. You get a job across town and need a way to commute? Your own circumstances tell you that you need a car. But the ad that tells you you need this here he-man truck because it will haul an asteroid counts on you not stopping to think --- "uh, I don't NEED to haul an asteroid". That's exactly how it works.

On another level ---- you see an ad for Coke. Doesn't impress you because you prefer Pepsi and you go buy some. But Coke still benefits because the Coke ad just sold you the idea of drinking sugary carbonated shit. And everybody who makes sugary carbonated shit benefits. Again --- something you don't need.

Advertising sells far more than specific products. It sells life concepts. The idea that you need a monster truck; the idea that you can't bother to make a meal and need fast food. The idea that your body smells/looks repulsive. The idea that it's a necessity to have instant access to the web on your phone so that no matter where you are or what you're doing you can always look up the lyrics to the Fred Flintstone theme song.

NONE of those are things you need. If you stink you take a shower. Advertising can't sell that.
