T. Boone Pickens' Energy Plan

No, that is not it. Their is no powerful solar and wind lobby in Washington. Their is, however, a powerful oil, coal, and automobile lobby that gets billions in government subsidies.

Wind and solar tech gets nice fat subsidies too.

You can subsidize it all you want, but most people want electricity that's reliable. And solar doesn't run at night. Or when it's raining. Wind blows...whenever it wants, and then quits for days on end. Pfft, minor detail, right?

Until there's a way to store mass quantities of electricity at an affordable price, we won't be able to shut down our conventional and nuclear plants. Geothermal runs 24/7 but suitable locations are somewhat limited.

Thats why I keep saying the best use of Solar and Wind is at the end source, as in at peoples homes, and not in large Power plants feeding the grid. Solar and wind will at best supplement our power, not be the answer. Unless of course we come up with a good way of storing power as you said.

For God's sake do a little reading before you talk BS. You put wind farms where the wind blows 95% of the time.

The reason wind power has worked for the Danes is that it has received consistent support from the government, unlike in the U.S. where we have had two ex oil men in the White House for eight years.

Because the energy found from wind power isn't consistently producing energy, we should not take advantage of it?

That position makes very little sense to me.

To say that wind farms don't consistently produce energy is an ignorant comment by the Baron. Read the link I posted.

Why would we put wind and solar energies in locations that do not maximize their output? Do we put oil rigs in mountains? We have a vast desert area that seems like prime locations for both.

There are houses in my area that are off the grid completely, they operate totally on solar power...but I don't know if there are times they are without power.

Ah so you link proves that the wind always blows, and the sun always shines eh.

LOL

Denmark has relatively modest average wind speeds in the range of 4.9 to 5.6 metres per second measured at 10 m height. Onshore wind resources are highest in the Western part of the country, and on the Eastern islands with coastlines facing South or West. The country has very large offshore wind resources, and large areas of sea territory with a shallow water depth of 5 to 15 m, where siting is most feasible. These sites offer higher wind speeds, in the range of roughly 8.5 to 9 m/s at 50 m height.[7] There have been no major problems from wind variability, although there is a temporary problem resulting from the connection of a large bloc of wind power from offshore wind farms to a single point on a weak section of the transmission network.[8]

Could it be to get our own oil instead of buying it from others? holy crap would that be a good idea we better not do that.

why would the big oil corporations want to drill off shore, 28k feet deep in to the ocean to get our oil when they signed a 30 year contract to drill EASILY a few hundred feet IN TO THE SAND in iraq to get their oil, with a much lesser expense to the big oil companies? they are in this for profit, they are not our brother's keeper, and never will be....they are in this for money, for profit..., no?

You just HAD to bring it up, didn't you? Don't you know there's no oil in Iraq and the invasion has nothing to do with it? Don't you know that Chevron and Exxon don't want you to know about their [absurdly unusual] sweetheart no-bid contracts in Iraq? Arghhh, foiled again! [/sarcasm]

Well, the almost extinct rare spotted desert frog may die and the theory of evolution will be blown apart.

Well, what can i say, other than it is true?
