Syria's Christian challenge?

I heard this story, I think very interesting, I wonder if this guy made a mistake.

So this Syrian Christian family must pay a new tax now, according to the Quran, an extra tax, for not being Muslims. Jesus says you must pay your taxes and give Ceasar what is Ceasar's. But he had to spen all his money on the black market for food or his family would have starved in the war. Now he is facing a very long prison sentence for not paying his taxes. He decided to not go to court but just go out in the desert and starve himself there, to rid his family of this tax burden. Does this count an act against Jesus and Christianity in general, or is this acceptable by the bible as this saves his family?
