Syrian government closes Homs-Palmyra Highway over ISIS threat

The army repelled more ISIS attacks. Meanwhile, more elite units are underway to the Palmyra front.

"On Saturday, units of the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) thwarted another powerful attack of the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Syria" (ISIS) southwest of the strategic T4 (Tiyas) Military Airport in the eastern part of Homs province.

According to a military source at the T4 Airbase, the aforementioned terror group launched an attack in the area of Al-Fawaraa water wells. Repelling the assault, government forces managed to destroy 3 armoured vehicles, including 2 battle tanks, and 5 technical vehicles while also killing at least 20 ISIS militants in the process. As a result, terrorists were forced to retreat.

In the meantime, another SAA unit repelled an ISIS assault on one of the Army's defensive positions in Al-Furs hills northeast of the city of Al-Qaryatayn. Here, government troops were able to destroy 2 armoured vehicles and 3 technical vehicles mounted with 23mm automatic anti-aircraft guns.



The video footage above shows the aftermath of today's ISIS attack in Al-Fawaraa area. Two tanks - one destroyed completely, and another one damaged - can be seen on video, as well as other weapons that were left by ISIS terrorists fleeing the area."

Syrian Army advances in western Palmyra after foiling massive ISIS offensive

BEIRUT, LEBANON (8:10 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) conducted a large-scale cleansing operation around the T-4 Airport in the western countryside of Palmyra on Saturday night, targeting the several hilltops located just north of this strategic military installation.

Led by the 800th Regiment and Hezbollah, the Syrian Armed Forces managed to expand the buffer-zone around the northern and eastern perimeters of the T-4 Airport, capturing more than 6km worth of territory near the T-4 Pumping Station.

In addition to the assault near the T-4 Pumping Station, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah also captured the Al-Sha'arah Hills located just north of the Abandoned Military Base after a fierce battle with the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham" (ISIS).

According to a military source at the T-4 Airport, the Syrian Armed Forces and Hezbollah killed more than 90 ISIS terrorists and destroyed at least 15 armored vehicles, including 5 tanks, over the last 48 hours.

This large-scale cleansing operation is being conducted ahead of the upcoming offensive to liberate the east Homs oil fields and ancient city of Palmyra by the Syrian Arab Army's (SAA) elite "Tiger Forces."

After more ISIS attacks were repelled the Syrian army launched a counter-offensive, killing many terrorists in the process.

"BEIRUT, LEBANON (11:30 A.M.) - The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) launched a counter-attack in the eastern countryside of Homs on Thursday night, targeting the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham's (ISIS) recently captured territory near the strategic town of Jubb Al-Jarrah.

Led by the 11th Tank Division, the Syrian Arab Army launched an attack on Qubbah Hill and several checkpoints east of this site after repelling the Islamic State's assault at Jubb Al-Jarrah, Maksar Al-Hissan, and Al-Masoudiyah.

Following the commencement of the counter-attack, the Syrian Arab Army managed to seize Qubbah Hill and its corresponding checkpoints, forcing the Islamic State terrorists to retreat towards the small village of Khattab, which is located east of Jubb Al-Jarrah.

With reinforcements from the 18th Tank Division arriving in Jubb Al-Jarrah last night, the Syrian Arab Army launched a powerful assault at Khattab this morning in order to reverse all of the Islamic State's advances.

According to a military source in east Homs, the Syrian Arab Army killed over 40 Islamic State militants during their counter-attack, while also destroying at least two tanks near Jubb Al-Jarrah.

The battle for Khattab is still ongoing at the moment, as the Syrian Arab Army continues to reverse the jihadist gains in eastern Homs."

Meanwhile, the Russian airforce launched an ISIS campaign.

"BEIRUT, LEBANON (1:00 P.M.) - The Russian Air Force is working overtime today, carrying out dozens of airstrikes across Syria's eastern countryside amid a massive assault by the so-called "Islamic State of Iraq and Al-Sham" (ISIS) in the Deir Ezzor and Homs governorates.

Russian jets reportedly delivered airstrikes above the main Islamic State supply line located between the Al-Raqqa and Homs governorates, resulting in the destruction of several terrorist oil tankers.

South of this road, the Russian Air Force carried out a number of sorties near the T-4 Military Airport, as they assist the Syrian Arab Army in their battle against the encroaching Islamic State terrorists.

Meanwhile east of the Homs Governorate, the Russian Air Force carried out a number of airstrikes over the Thardeh Mountains, Al-Rashidiyah, Al-Arfa, and Al-Hawiqah districts of Deir Ezzor; these attacks resulted in the death of several Islamic State personnel.

The Russian Air Force is still conducting airstrikes at this moment, hitting targets all over the vast Syrian Desert which stretches as far east as the Iraqi border."

The army continues its general offensive.

"Today, Syrian Arab Army (SAA) forces advanced northeast of the T-4 Airbase and captured the western hill overlooking the Jihar gas field in Eastern Homs.

By taking control of the hill, the Syrian Armed Forces have achieved fire control over the entire Jihar gas wheels and the gas station as well.

These fresh gains prepare the ground for the SAA to push towards the Hayyan and Jihar companies from two axis, west from the Tiyas hills and south from the Jihar crossroads area.

The picture below shows an SAA soldier standing at the last point they reached south of the Hayyan company area.

Meanwhile, Syrian airstrikes targeted ISIS positions inside the city of Palmyra (Tadmur) in Al-Areed Street resulting in the killing of 9 ISIS fighters, plus destroying a bulldozer and a fuel truck in the area."

"Following the liberation of the Hayyan Gas Fields this morning, the Syrian Arab Army’s 5th Legion, alongside Hezbollah and the 18th Tank Division, liberated several points east of this site, entering the village of Al-Bayarat after overrunning the Islamic State’s defenses.

Not long after entering Al-Bayarat, another Syrian Arab Army unit attacked the Islamic State’s defenses at the Palmyra Driving School and hospital located northeast of Buwaydah Al-Gharbiyah Hospital.

In a matter of two hours, the Syrian Arab Army would impose full control over the aforementioned sites, while pushing further east towards the city of Palmyra."
