Swim club president denies racism in pool controversy - CNN.com

The president of The Valley Swim Club on Friday strongly denied charges of racism after his club canceled the swimming privileges of a nearby day care center whose children are predominantly African-American.

I suppose whether or not this guy's motives were racist are still up for debate...

But what is not up for debate is that buttoning your top button makes you look like a fuckin' dweeb!

Because of the intimacy of sharing water, swimming pools siphon up more racialist sentiment than other settings. I've seen liberal white mothers pull their kids out of the pool the minute a bunch of blacks jumped in. There are real concerns. For one, the black kids are a little more rambunctious, and I've seen white kids get thwacked with a black elbow. For another, the whites don't the like the idea of swimming around in jheri-curl or whatever... kinda narsty.

It's like the white parents who are 60's libs but get very uncomfortable if their daughter brings home "Tyrone"!

But of course, whites will never admit any of this.

Except me.

I had a girlfriend who always wanted me to button up the top button. She said she liked that but I'm pretty sure she was trying to make me look like a dork so that no other women would be interested.

I've been smacked by rambunctious WHITE elbows (ok, they were more a pinkish color) much, much more. I even was jumped on when doing laps a few times...all by those pinkish looking kids. Maybe they should leave the pool, eh?

:cuckoo:

Yeah, so what? I've had black women elbow their way in front of me.

""There were a lot of children in the pool and not enough lifeguards," he said. "As general members we were not told that they were coming. If we knew, we could decide to not come when the pool was crowded or come anyway. We could have had an option."

He also said invitations to two other day care centers, neither of which contained minority children, had previously been withdrawn."

It's as I suspected and said in the other thread. The kids were rambunctious and people were worried about safety. The day camp organizers were stupid not to call the pool.

The club tries to do them a favor, and gets treated like shit for it. I'll bet they don't make that mistake again.

It's a non-issue. The pool was private, the monies were returned, and nobody got their asses kicked. Take the 1900 bucks and use it to invest in a pool for the poor minority kids.

Ah, yes... the old "some women are taller than men, therefore, everyone's the same size" argument.

I think you've been in the water too long.
