Susan Estrich Obama has no mandate to raise my taxes

President Obama has a mandate to raise taxes on wealthy Americans, senior campaign adviser David Axelrod said on Sunday on CBS’s Face the Nation.

Obama has threatened to veto any bill that that does not allow tax rates to rise on households that earn more than $250,000 a year. Asked if Obama has won a mandate with his election victory, despite winning by a small percentage, Axelrod did not answer directly, but said Obama had won a mandate on taxes.

“On this particular issue, it wasn't close,” Axlerod said, citing exit polling that show about 60 percent of voters agreed with Obama’s position on taxes.

Axelrod is running the country now scary...Your life wont improve once taxes are raised idiot

Axelrod and Valerie Jarrett to a larger extent have been running Obama for years now.
Everything out of Obama's mouth started with those two.

We need to avoid going over the fiscal cliff. But Obama must also avoid the political cliff. One of the amazing things about this country is that the middle class doesn't hate the rich. We are not a society divided by economic castes. Yes, there are real issues as the gap between the top and the middle, between CEOs and those in good but not great jobs, grows. But beginning a new term with what will look to many like a class war is not the way to fulfill the real mandate of this election, which is to bring us together, not turn us against each other.
Obviously nothing can be done about perception – regardless how detached from reality it may be.

Returning to more responsible, realistic tax structure is not ‘war on the rich,’ to believe so is idiocy, or more likely partisan contrivance and dishonesty.

Our revenue isn't the problem spending is. Susan Estririch is right, i expect many more liberals to start complaining as Obama's tax policies and Obama care are implimented. We need to reform the tax code as Obama said he would do when he came into office originally not just raise taxes which wont do much to lower the deficit

If the Democrats don't have a mandate to raise some taxes,

then the Republicans don't have a mandate to extend all of the tax cuts set to expire.

If you accept her premise, that by logic argues that neither party has a mandate for change, then you have to accept the status quo,

which is that under current tax law, tax law already in place, all of the Bush tax cuts not mention other temporary tax cuts expire at the end of the year.

Is that really what she's arguing for? Is that what those of you who agree with her are arguing for?

Well, she's an idiot if she thought her taxes weren't going to go up.

The man ran on raising taxes. He said in damn near every speech that he wanted to raise taxes. Only an idiot would cast their vote for him and then whine that he did exactly what he pledged to do.

She's counting on the Republican house to stop him...How ironic that is:eusa_eh:

I don't think Republicans should stand in his way... Let him raise Taxes in this economy and see how fast we become Greece. Obama owns this mess now.
He will never accept the blame for his actions, no matter how much disaster they cause.

Nor will his acolytes, the Obamabots.

It will forever be someone else's fault.

Ahhh, the liberal whiner that lives in LA that keeps seeing her CA taxes going through the roof now doesn't like the fact her Federal taxes are going up.

She knows she can't afford to keep working at USC if all of her taxes keep going up as well as living expenses in LA.

She deserves everything she gets...elections have consequences.

His mandate is that he is President of the United States......that's all that is required

Realistic Tax structure? And you talk about dishonesty. In order to return to a realistic Tax structure you must first engage in realistic spending... Sorry, but Taxing people into oblivion in this piss poor economy to save ridiculous hand out programs is a one way ticket to the economy of Greece.

A friend of mine wrote this on Facebook:

To those who say we need to go back to the progressive tax rates of the 50s:

Can we get all the tax shelters from the 50s too?

I'd love to take the losses from one business and use them as a write off for profits from another business. I'd love to operate a foreign subsidiary that buys and sells products to a domestic supplier that I also own. Oh, and I'd be elated to have a charitable foundation that can employ people that work in my office, owns my building, and pays to maintain the boats I own.

Oh and there was no Alternative Minimum Tax, no Social Security Tax and not Medicare Tax in the 50s. Can we go back to that?

President Obama, Clinton Prosperity Requires Clinton-Sized Government

There is a way for Congressional Republicans to reach an accord with Democrats that would enable the nation to avoid falling off “the fiscal cliff” into a searing recession.

Obama Democrats argue that the President only wants to restore the top rates that reigned during the Clinton presidency, which was a prosperous time. We should say: Absolutely, let’s do it. But in order to achieve a Clinton economy, you also must enact the other Clinton policies critical to the prosperity of those years: They include:

I. A Freer Economy

--

II. Clinton-era Federal Spending Levels

--

III. A Strong and Stable Dollar

Simply screeching "tax the rich!!" and pretending that will solve all our problems is not dealing in reality.

Axlerod....one of the top liars.

There is no mandate. If obama had a mandate, the dems would have taken the House.

They did not. Simply saying you have a mandate means nothing. It is just another lie.

Yes, he has a mandate.

I agree.

Strip Ashley Judd of all her wealth. You own it right? Now strip Speilberg of all his wealth.

You own it right?

Chris Rock. Strip him of his wealth. You own Lakhota right? You earned your chunk of Chris Rock's wealth right?

You Lakhota have the right to all their wealth just because you were born in an Obama world.

What is so confusing about why it's a good thing to have a progressive tax code, also trickle down Econ. Failed every time. Also do you know the logic behind taxing the rich? Cause I don't think you grasp the meaning.

Idiot liberals point back to decades ago when tax rates were very high as some example it can be done today.

The problem is there wasn't a middle class like today back then, the country was mostly poor or uber rich. The uber rich paid the taxes and everyone else worked in a factory, a farm, small store, etc.

Today we have a big middle class that can't afford the rich to quit growing the economy since Uncle Sam stole most of their money....the middle class will move down to the poor category once the jobs start drying up under higher taxes.

Liberals always find a way to fuck things up, see their USSR.

What additional authority does a "mandate" provide?

If you win by one vote or a hundred million votes, your powers as President remain the same

Whata stupid person. She believes heavily in class warfare then tells people it's dangerous to do class warfare as it divides people. The article was about how she was pissed she was considered "rich." Basically, she wants taxes raised on others, not her... Fucking shocking.

This is what all you dip chits have to look forward to. The economy will get worse, your taxes will go up, people will become more poor. You voted for something out of 100% pure greed by believing you would get something for free by screwing others, and guess what.....

First off, dems won the white house, second not only did they not lose seats in the senate, they gained. And as for the house, it was impossible to gain control, but you know what did happen, dems gained alot of seats there as well. So the republicans lost total seats in both the house and the senate and lost the white house.......

Not a mandate does it make.

In 2010, the GOP made historic gains in both Federal and State Houses.

The left claimed no mandate for that slaughter, they win a Presidential election 52% to 48% and then claim a mandate?

The ONLY mandate that exists anymore is super majorities in all Three Branches of Government.

That IS political reality today.

If there's no mandate (whatever that nonsensical term is supposed to mean)

to change the tax laws, then the current tax cuts have to expire. All of them that have an expiration date.
