Thailand bans surrogate babies from leaving ? Japan Today: Japan News and Discussion

"CANBERRA, Australia —
Four couples from the United States and Australia have been prevented from leaving Thailand with surrogate babies as part of a government crackdown on the burgeoning commercial surrogacy industry, an Australian broadcaster reported Friday.

The crackdown follows recent publicity over a Thai surrogate mother who said she was left with a baby rejected by his Australian biological parents after he was born with Down syndrome. "

Reminds me of an incident a few years back when an American couple 'returned' the Russian baby they had supposedly just adopted when the child seemed like too much trouble for them. Not long after, Russia passed laws restricting foreign adoption - which had been a thriving 'business' to that point.

The 'parents' of the abandoned child should never have been allowed to use a surrogate. The father is a convicted pedophile, and they even asked for a refund when they found the boy had Down Syndrome.

Death chambers are not civilised.

Thousands of infertile Australians paying for surrogacy in India and Thailand

THE booming offshore baby market has become big business with one surrogacy centre in India engaging 600 women to produce babies for wealthy overseas couples.
Commercial surrogacy is outlawed in Australia but in 2011-12 more than 300 babies were produced for Australian couples at overseas clinics.

Research to be presented at the Brisbane ASPIRE conference this week shows infertility will this century become the third most widespread health condition behind cancer and cardiovascular disease.

THE DARK SIDE OF COMMERCIAL SURROGACY IN THAILAND

BABY BORN BY SURROGACY FOUR MONTHS AFTER MUM DIED

With more than 48 million infertile couples worldwide the development of modern IVF clinics in places like India and Thailand has seen poor women in these countries turn to surrogacy for an income.

GAY COUPLE HAVE SURROGATE TWINS BORN IN THAILAND

Melbourne mother Melissa Hay simultaneously paid two women in India to carry her three children Jack, Lily and Sophie who were born on the same day in December 2012.

What is right?
and what is wrong?
Who is to decide?

New laws now exist in the industry in Thailand and India.
With all the money, and desperate couples involved...can't see the industry ending anytime soon.

These industries go deeper than that. The Far East has been selling kids into slavery to places like the middle east for a very long time. Which still goes on in this day and age.
