Suppose the Republicans win?

That may be authoritarian government, but it's not big government. Obamacare is big government because it creates hundreds of new departments, causes tens of thousands of bureaucrats to get hired, and spends $trillions of dollars. How much does the DOMA legislation cost the taxpayers? Not a single dime.

I don't agree with that logic at all. "Big Government" refers to both (1) physical size of the federal government (and amount it costs to run), and (2) the reach, authority, and lawmaking power of the federal government. It refers interchangeably to both those things, and saying it can only refer to one and not the other is incorrect.

It is a truism that the larger a government becomes the more authoritarian it becomes.
Just look how many government bureucracies have armed agent to enforce their rules. At no time since the totalitarian regimes of the WWII era, has there been such an authoritarian mentality within our government. Here are the agencies allowed to be armed on flights within the US. Some eye openers there.

The following Federal agencies may be armed during flight -whether on official business or not.

-Bureau of Printing and Engraving

-Coast Guard

-Customs

-Defense Nuclear Agency

-Dept of Agriculture (Poultry Inspectors, etc)

-Dept of Commerce

-Dept of Education

-Dept of Health and Human Services

-Dept of Labor

-Dept of State

-Dept of the Air Force/Army/Navy

-Dept of the Interior

-FBI

-General Services Administration

-Postal Service

-Secret Service

-Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms

-FAA

-IRS

-Dept of Transportation

-CIA

-DOD

-Dept of Energy

-Dept of Housing and Urban Development

-Dept of State

-Dept of the Treasury

-National Security Agency

-DEA

-Federal Prison System

-Federal Protective Service

-Marshals Service

-Smithsonian Institution

Because with Bripat there is no logic.

The thing I'm most afraid of if republicans win is the radical left wing of the democrat party and their socialist comrades. Van Jones already has the OWS primed for anarchy and you have experienced terrorist general Bill Ayers waiting on the sidelines. When you combine the incredible hatred on the left with the disappointment of losing the election all they need is a spark.

Seriously, if that's your primary concern about the state of this nation, you need to get out more. I can assure you few lefties I know are heavily armed.

Most of my leaning left chums don't have the presencce of mind to get out of the rain let along prepare for a violent revolution.

If there's a violent revolution it won't be coming from the left.

I know the left, they're not DOERS, they're TALKERS (like me, really, and I'm not embarassed to admit it, either).

If you're truly concerned about this nation going into meltdown, I'd be more worrried about those rightest fruitcakes who have been arming themselves preparing for an armed conflict.

That's where your violent revolutionaries are going to come from (at first, at least).

Of course if a meltdown occurs then the whole issue of right v left will become irrlevant damned quick.

Then it will really be just one set of thugs or the other dominating the unarmed and fighting with each other.

And that kind of scenario doesn't typically lead to any kind of government BUT the authoritarian nightmare kind.

And that we ALL ought to be concerned about.
